Directed by Johannes Roberts, RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY will come as a reboot of the Resident Evil film series. This film will adapt the story from the first and second RESIDENT EVIL games by Capcom. WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY will be the seventh live-action film in the Resident Evil franchise.

Sony Pictures stated on their website that this film will bring the popular RESIDENT EVIL franchise back to its origins, with Johannes Roberts bringing the video game story to life for new fans. The film will depict the events in Raccoon City, which has now become a dead city after being abandoned by the Umbrella Corporation.
This film will also bring the original video game characters to the screen with Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, and Lily Gao as Ada Wong. As you can see, all the main characters from the game are in this film.
Set in Arklay County, Raccoon City was destroyed by the t-Virus outbreak in 1998. The t-Virus entered Raccoon City due to the actions of Dr. William Birkin, who allowed one of Umbrella's facilities in the city to become contaminated, turning it into a breeding ground for a massive zombie disaster.
In addition to the main characters, RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY as a reboot film also features monsters that remain faithful to their original source, such as Lickers and Zombie Dogs, which you can see in the trailer.
RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY is planned to be released on November 24, 2021 in the United States. This date was postponed from the original release dates of September 3 and September 9, scheduled for 2021.
The game RESIDENT EVIL reveals William Birkin as the main villain as part of Umbrella, who distributes the t-Virus in Raccoon City, and it seems that the film WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY will follow the same plot.
