Interesting Facts about THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF THE SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES, Revealing the Antagonist's Past

Kapanlagi.com - THE HUNGER GAMES has become one of the popular trilogies loved by many. Since the last sequel released in 2015, THE HUNGER GAMES introduces a prequel to the trilogy, which will be released on November 17, 2023, titled THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF THE SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES.

Similar to other THE HUNGER GAMES sequels, this film is an adaptation of the novel by Suzanne Collins, which was published in 2020 with the same title. The film is produced by LIONSGATE and directed by Francis Lawrence.

However, this film will be different as it will not focus on Katniss Everdeen as the main character. Instead, it will explore the past of the cruel President of Panem, who was the antagonist in the previous THE HUNGER GAMES series, Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth).

1. Synopsis

This prequel takes place 64 years before Katniss Everdeen's era in the first THE HUNGER GAMES film, where it was a post-Capitol war period that caused the Snow family to experience difficulties and poverty. Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), as a member of the Snow family at the age of 18, tries to restore his family by becoming the mentor of Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) in the 10th Hunger Games.

Lucy Gray is an ordinary girl from District 12, where Katniss Everdeen comes from. She doesn't have outstanding physical strength, but Lucy has natural talent and intelligence. Snow and Lucy work together by training and forming strategies to take down their opponents. However, Snow's closeness to Lucy leads them to a romantic story that brings Snow to a difficult choice between his future or the person he loves. In this prequel, Snow shows his ambition and how he becomes a ruthless and power-hungry figure. 

2. Telling the History of the Hunger Games

THE BALLAD OF THE SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES tells in more detail the origins of the Hunger Games, which will open up the mysteries in the THE HUNGER GAMES series. Besides presenting the cruel start of the game, this prequel also highlights the history of the people of the Capitol, as well as the history of how the Panem system operates and how it impacts the lives of its inhabitants.

3. Different Arena Setting

Unlike the Hunger Games experienced during Katniss Everdeen's time, which had an outdoor setting with refreshing forest and nature views, the arena presented in the THE BALLAD OF THE SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES series showcases the 18th arena with an indoor setting. Instead of forests and nature, this arena displays the ruins of buildings. The used arena appears drier and more eerie. 

4. Different Perspectives Focus

Different from previous THE HUNGER GAMES series where viewers will get the perspective as participants of The Hunger Games. In this film, viewers will be focused on the perspective of Corioulanus Snow, an ambitious mentor of Lucy Gray. This prequel is also unlike the previous trilogy that focuses on rebellion plans and strategies. THE BALLAD OF THE SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES will focus its audience on the elements that became the young Snow's ambition before he became a ruthless ruler.

5. Unveiling the Origin of the Mockingjay Bird

This film will fill and complete several plot holes in the previous series, including one of them being the origin of the Mockingjay bird. The bird that became a symbol of rebellion originated from the Jabberjay bird. This bird was genetically modified to mimic human voices and serve as spies for the rebels during the uprising in the Capitol. After understanding its role and function, the bird was released into the wild by the Capitol, creating the Mockingjay bird beyond human control. This bird then becomes a symbol of rebellion in Katniss Everdeen's future.
