TWISTERS (2024) is an American natural disaster film developed by international film distributor Universal Pictures. With a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith and produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley. This film is a standalone sequel to the film titled TWISTER released in 1996.
The first film was successful in selling 54 million tickets in the United States, earning around 500 million USD or equivalent to 7.7 trillion Indonesian rupiah. In addition, it also received much praise for its visual effects and the highly anticipated continuation of the film.

It tells the story of a married couple named Tyler Owens and Kate Cooper who are conducting research on devices to combat the frequent storms in Oklahoma. Kate is a storm chaser and a meteorologist, while Tyler is a former weather researcher who switched professions to become a television weather reporter.
Kate and her team have created four tornado research devices named Dorothy. Unfortunately, their research is incomplete as an F1 tornado strikes Kate's camp, leaving nothing behind. Tyler tries to gather the remains of Dorothy's wreckage and encounters Dr. Jonas Miller, a meteorology expert funded by a rival storm chaser company.
Eventually, Tyler creates a device called DOT-3, which is a replica of Dorothy. It is rumored that Dr. Jonas Miller wants to maximize the device by examining its basic composition, which is made from parts of Dorothy. Tyler did not give the remains of Dorothy to Dr. Jonas Miller even though his life was at stake. Unfortunately, Dr. Jonas Miller was sucked in and killed by an F1 tornado, while Tyler was also dragged into the vortex of the storm and disappeared without a trace.
27 years later, Kate is still haunted by the tornado attack that destroyed buildings around her. Therefore, she plans to study storm patterns in New York. She is persuaded by her friend named Javi to test a new and more innovative tracking system. There, she reunites with her husband Tyler after being missing for 27 years. Tyler's return brings a sad and touching atmosphere to the camp.
As the storm season in Oklahoma intensifies and becomes more dangerous, Tyler, Kate, and Javi work together to create a more advanced and powerful device to neutralize tornadoes.
2. TWISTERS Can Still Be a Sequel Without the Involvement of Original Characters

TWISTERS is a standalone sequel that does not feature the return of the original film's characters. However, there is a possibility that the new characters will have some connection to the old sequel. Although not officially confirmed, it has been reported that the story of TWISTERS will follow the journey of Jo and Bill Harding, the storm chasing couple portrayed by Hunt and Paxton.
