'SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME' Becomes the Official Title of the MCU Sequel, What Will the Film Be Like?

Based on the surprising post-credit scene from SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME and various rumors circulating among fans, IGN Southeast Asia outlines some things that are predicted to be included in Peter Parker's latest adventure. 1. Quirky Spoilers from the Cast

Before the official title was released, the cast of the Spider-Man movie gave spoilers to fans through their personal social media accounts. However, Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya gave quirky spoilers, ranging from SPIDER-MAN: PHONE HOME, SPIDER-MAN: HOME-WRECKER, or even SPIDER-MAN: HOME SLICE.

"I am very excited to announce the title of the new Spider-Man movie. Can't wait for you to see what we have done. Love from Atlanta," wrote Tom Holland accompanying a post that included a photo of himself with Batalon and Zendaya, and the title of the film SPIDER-MAN: PHONE HOME.

2. Spider-Man Without a Secret Identity

It is estimated that the twist ending of FAR FROM HOME will greatly affect the storyline in NO WAY HOME. Peter Parker's worst nightmare comes true, as his secret is revealed and the people he loves suffer the consequences of his actions as Spider-Man.

In the comic version of Civil War, Peter willingly reveals his secret identity to the world in support of the Superhuman Registration Act, which forces him to become a fugitive underground and Aunt May is shot by a hitman hired by Kingpin. Finally, Peter and Mary Jane make a deal with the devil, sacrificing their marriage in exchange for Aunt May's life and making the world forget Spider-Man's identity.

Unlike the comic version of Spider-Man, Peter's situation in the MCU is slightly different. He is still known as a hero in accordance with the Sokovia Accords and receives support from the Avengers and other powerful individuals like Happy Hogan to protect his family and clear his name. This has sparked speculation that NO WAY HOME will bring back Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, to the MCU to defend Peter in court. On the other hand, it is also predicted that Doctor Strange, who is rumored to appear in this film, will play a significant role in NO WAY HOME. It is highly likely that Spidey will seek Strange's help to find some magical methods to restore his secret identity.

NO WAY HOME itself is also reported to be involved in the film DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS in 2022. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Marvel multiverse will also appear in NO WAY HOME. Will Peter seek help from the multiverse in the hope of finding a world where his life was never destroyed by Beck? Will Peter use magic powers and multiverse travel to return to a better and happier life, or will he accept the responsibility he has to protect his own world no matter what happens?

3. Will it Become a Spider-Verse Film?

There are rumors circulating that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their respective versions of Spider-Man for NO WAY HOME alongside people like Jamie Foxx as Electro and Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus. Although these rumors have been denied by Tom Holland, fans still believe in the potential storyline where Peter gets lost in the Marvel multiverse, struggling to find his way back home and temporarily teaming up with his counterparts from other worlds.

Some revealed photos of NO WAY HOME so far also show signs of a multiverse approach. Peter, MJ, and Ned are seen wandering in a place that could possibly be called Sanctum Santorum. IGN Southeast Asia predicts that Peter wants to seek help from Strange, but Ned, being too curious, discovers some magical artifacts that send the three of them into another dimension.

Furthermore, IGN Southeast Asia also mentions that there will be a connection between NO WAY HOME and WANDAVISION. This connection is seen from the chemical compound forming a hexagonal shape in the teaser for this film. It is highly likely that this is a reference to 'The Hex' created by Wanda Maximoff in Westview, NJ. If WandaVision opens the door to the multiverse, Spider-Man might be the first hero to get involved in that chaos.

4. Interesting Easter Eggs in the Teaser

Fans hoping for a live-action version of SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE should not expect too much, considering that both previous Spider-Man films directed by Jon Watts were based on MCU standards. The Spider-Man story delves more into the world of Peter Parker and his emotional journey as a teenager struggling with his powers, hormones, and responsibilities. NO WAY HOME may not be much different from before, despite Peter's increasing desperation. And with Jacob Batalon as Ned, Zendaya as MJ, and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, it is likely that this film will still focus on Peter's school friends and teachers.

The title NO WAY HOME could also have a very different connotation. Instead of diving into the multiverse, this title could simply refer to Peter's desire to return to the peaceful and simple life he had before gaining powers and joining the Avengers. What if someone goes back to being normal after being considered a superhero? Is it possible for them to go back to school and hang out with friends? There is a perfect harmony with the idea that SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING tells the story of Peter longing to be great, FAR FROM HOME shows Peter successfully achieving that goal, and NO WAY HOME is about the unintended consequences of being great. Like most teenage protagonists on the big screen, Peter is now experiencing a major identity crisis, just slightly bigger than most people.

Twitter user @Megablack2000 also pointed out a very interesting easter egg in the teaser photo of No Way Home above. The spider web surrounding the title is quite similar to the shape of Puerto Rico. Could Peter be hiding in Puerto Rico? Does the title of the film literally imply that Peter will be far from Queens with no way to safely return? Whatever happens there, we cannot forget that the character Miles Morales is of Puerto Rican descent.

5. Villain Characters in NO WAY HOME

Despite some mainstay actors like Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Disney and Sony have not confirmed the complete cast of NO WAY HOME. It can be assumed that J.K. Simmons will also return as J. Jonah Jameson from the MCU, or maybe more than one JJJ, depending on how many multiverses are featured. But the only clues about the villains in this film come from casting rumors that mention Molina, Foxx, and several other stars reprising their old roles. Jake Gyllenhaal might also return as Mysterio. Although he died in the climax of FAR FROM HOME, Mysterio is one character where the audience can never trust their own eyes.

It is also assumed that NO WAY HOME will not focus on just one villain, but instead will introduce the Sinister Six to the MCU. This speculation arises from HOMECOMING where the post-credit scene shows Adrian Toomes played by Michael Keaton being approached by Mac Gargan (aka Scorpion) played by Michael Mando. The multiverse can be used as a shortcut to the Sinister Six, allowing the MCU versions of Vulture, Shocker, Scorpion, and Mysterio to collaborate with Doctor Octopus played by Molina, Electro played by Foxx, and possibly other villains.

Although the rumors about Molina and Foxx are widely discussed, there is no guarantee that they will play the same versions of their characters in the previous Spider-Man films. Thanks to JJJ Simmons, there is a precedent for actors who are already known to play new versions of their old characters in the MCU. Foxx hinted at a new version of Electro that is no longer blue through a now-deleted tweet. The goal here may be to bring back actors that are already known so that the audience will recognize the characters and their relationship with Spider-Man, eliminating the need for original stories and creating a sequel that will be very busy.

6. Making Impatient

When NO WAY HOME is released in theaters, viewers may also have a better idea of how Sony's Spider-Man spin-off films will connect to the MCU. VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE and MORBIUS are expected to debut before the third Spider-Man film, although MORBIUS has now been delayed to January 2022, a few weeks after the release of NO WAY HOME. The first Morbius trailer featured an MCU connection thanks to the brief appearance of Adrian Toomes played by Keaton.
