The Hong Kong police launched a secret operation named Boar Hunt to capture criminal mastermind Chu Tao. Several officers were undercover and stationed in a densely populated slum area.
However, their cover was blown, and a shootout was unavoidable. Chu Tao escaped with his men in a car, but they crashed and continued their escape by boarding a double-decker bus.
Sergeant Chan Ka-Kui continued to pursue them until he managed to stop the bus by himself. He threatened the bus driver with his service weapon to stop the vehicle.
This heroic act brought him media attention and made him a role model for his superiors in the police force. Although he had previously been reprimanded for the mission being considered a failure, he was given a new assignment to protect Chu Tao's secretary, Salina Fong.

Salina initially refused protection, until Chan Ka-Kui faked an attack to get her to cooperate. The real attack then actually happened, and Salina managed to scare off the attackers with Ka-Kui's gun.
On the other hand, Ka-Kui's girlfriend, May, misunderstood when she found Salina in her boyfriend's apartment wearing only underwear and a jacket. The conflict peaked when Salina realized that the attack in her apartment earlier was just a setup, then deleted the evidence of the recording and fled.
Jackie Chan plays the main character, Sergeant Chan Ka-Kui, a dedicated police officer. Brigitte Lin portrays Salina Fong, a secretary who becomes an important witness in the Chu Tao case.
Maggie Cheung appears as May, Ka-Kui's girlfriend who gets caught up in personal conflict. Chor Yuen plays Chu Tao, the cunning criminal who becomes the main fugitive in the story.
