Desmond's main goal in entering the battlefield is not to take lives, but to become a medic. This is what makes Desmond bullied and ridiculed by his fellow soldiers. However, uniquely, despite never firing a single shot, Desmond is honored as the first soldier in America to receive the Medal of Honor.

Set during World War I, this film tells the story of two soldiers named William Schofield (played by George MacKay) and Thomas Blake (played by Dean-Charles Chapman) who are assigned to deliver an important message to Devonshire.

William and Thomas must successfully deliver the message before sunrise. The message contains the cancellation of an attack on the German camp by 1,600 soldiers, which turns out to be a trap. If the message is not delivered on time, the lives of 1,600 soldiers, including Thomas' brother Joseph Blake, will be lost.
