What does LIGHTSUM mean?

JUHYEON: The name LIGHTSUM is a combination of LIGHT and SUM. It means like small lights coming together to illuminate the world. It means the 8 members of LIGHTSUM join together to bring positive energy to you.

How do you feel about receiving so much support since your debut?

HANA: It's amazing to see so many fans and comments that we didn't even expect even before LIGHTSUM was released. It's really encouraging. We also experienced difficult times during the preparation period, but I felt that I had to work hard because many people were waiting for us.

SANGAH: I have never been on stage before. So when my first photo was released, fans were interested and gave a lot of praise. I felt like I had debuted already. Even though we hadn't debuted at that time, thank you for giving me and LIGHTSUM a lot of love, attention, and support.

What is the reason for choosing Vanilla as the debut song?

JUHYEON: First of all, the reason why Vanilla was chosen as our debut single is because the song is colorful and can showcase the charms of all the members. The song is cool and catchy, suitable for summer. So this song was chosen as our debut song. Vanilla means that the eight of us, LIGHTSUM, are very special in our daily lives.

You are very young, especially Jian who is only 15 years old. Do you feel burdened?

JIAN: Because I am the youngest, yes, I feel burdened. But I think I have more hopes than burdens.

How do you balance between your career and education?

YUJEONG: Sometimes I go to school before practice, and I also study hard on EBS (Educational Broadcasting System).

HUIYEON: I take online classes through ZOOM and also go to school.

JIAN: Like HUIYEON and YUJEONG, I also have online school schedules.

What have you learned from senior K-Pop girl groups? And what makes LIGHTSUM different from them?

HINA: When preparing for our debut song, I learned a lot about gestures. I also learned about expressions and gestures by watching videos of performances by senior K-Pop artists.

JUHYEON: There are many things to pay attention to, not just dancing and singing, but also stage presence. How to speak fluently. I learned a lot from watching videos of senior K-Pop artists. Especially, I learned about how to speak fluently from interviews and learned expressions from fancams.

NAYOUNG: Because we are a teenage group, we can bring youthful and fresh energy.

Did you receive any advice from seniors like CLC or (G)-IDLE?

SEUNGYEON CLC and SOYEON (G)IDLE came to the filming location to cheer us on during the making of our music video. We were very busy at that time. I remember getting a lot of energy, thanks to them.

Share some facts about yourselves that many people don't know yet!

JUHYEON: LIGHTSUM's TMI! The height difference between me and NAYOUNG is perfect for romantic excitement.

NAYOUNG: If you see our height difference later, you will feel excited.

JUHYEON: We could act in a drama.

NAYOUNG: SANGAH & JUHYEON are really funny when they fight.

JUHYEON: I'm serious.

CHOWON: We always tease SANGAH when she's angry.

SANGAH: There's a lot I want to say, but no.

JUHYEON: There are many hidden chemistry in our team, like Tom & Jerry. So pay attention.

Who among you is the most suitable for the song Vanilla?

SANGAH: I think YUJEONG is the most suitable.

YUJEONG: I think NAYOUNG is the most suitable.

NAYOUNG: I think YUJEONG is the most suitable.

IAN: I also think YUJEONG is the most suitable.

CHOWON: I agree, YUJEONG seems to be the most suitable.

HUIYEON: I also think YUJEONG.

HINA: I'm not sure. Actually, everyone is suitable. But YUJEONG does seem to be the most suitable.

JUHYEON: In my opinion, it's YUJEONG, like what they said. I think she's responsible for the killing part and followed by the chorus part. In my opinion, YUJEONG's voice and expression are refreshing and perfect for this song.

If you didn't become an idol, what would you do now?

CHOWON: I think I would become an elementary school teacher, if I didn't become an idol or actor. My dream of becoming an elementary school teacher came before my desire to become an idol and actor. It became one of my dreams.

HUIYEON: I think I would become a doctor. Because I have been to a Korean medical clinic for fatigue and treatment. So I think I would become a doctor in Korea because I also want to become a doctor.

HINA: If I didn't become an idol, I think I would become a flight attendant. My mother used to be a flight attendant. So I also want to become a flight attendant, but my dream is to become a successful idol.

For JUHYEON, how does it feel to be chosen as the leader?

JUHYEON: When I was chosen as the leader, I was worried that I couldn't do my best. But all the members kept supporting me and believing in me. Now, I'm happy that I can practice in a comfortable and enjoyable environment. As the leader, I think the most difficult moment is making decisions and thinking whether the decisions are correct.

For HINA, do the other members teach you Korean?

HINA: In daily life or when studying, they are very helpful. Especially JUHYEON because her Japanese is good. If there are words or terms that I don't know, I will immediately ask her.

What do you want to do after your debut stage?

SANGAH: I will definitely be nervous after our debut performance. I want to sit together and eat delicious food and also watch our performance again.

HUIYEON: And also, I want to celebrate our debut stage by communicating with fans through live streaming.

What are your hopes for the first 100 days after debut?

JUHYEON: I'm sure our schedule will be busy after debut because we will be successful. I hope all members can stay healthy. After the schedule ends, I want to calm myself and enjoy the happiness. I hope we can successfully complete our first promotion and prepare for the second promotion.
