[Exclusive Interview] Singaporean Rapper ShiGGa Shay Releases Single 'uRight' Collaboration with Jay Park & The Story Behind It

Kapanlagi.com - Singaporean rapper ShiGga Shay released his first single of 2021, 'uRight', in collaboration with Jay Park. 'uRight' itself was inspired by an accidental encounter where ShiGga Shay was recording in Los Angeles in 2019 and a close friend confided in him about their relationship.

In response, the rapper uttered a mantra-like phrase, "If you really loved the other person, it wouldn't matter who's right or who's wrong in an argument."

After the above conversation, ShiGGa Shay immediately freestyled with a beat from superjdoug and quickly created the chorus. However, both producer OkayJJack and ShiGGa Shay felt that something was missing. They both agreed that they needed someone who understood both Hip Hop and R&B, and that's when they decided to collaborate with Jay Park.

"Coincidentally, Jay happened to be in LA for work. Despite being very busy, he came to the studio. He wrote his part in 20 minutes and recorded it immediately. We finished the song that night." A few months later, Jay flew to Singapore and we shot a music video that showcased some places here. I want to show locations that are not well known by foreigners. Truly salute and respect to Jay Park for making this collaboration a reality!" said the rapper.

Question: How would you describe ShiGGa Shay as a rapper?
ShiGGa Shay: Someone who is able to adapt to shortcomings.

Question: Can you explain your mantra "If you really loved the other person, it wouldn't matter who's right or who's wrong in an argument."
ShiGGa Shay: What I mean is that sometimes in a debate, if you look at it from a broader perspective, disagreements and arguments are just spices in your relationship.

Question: What is the meaning of the title of the single "uRight"?
ShiGGa Shay: It means 'you are right'.

Question: What are you most excited about while waiting for the release of your first single in 2021?
ShiGGa Shay: I am very excited because finally the world can hear my song. It has been two years since its creation, and I can't wait to share it with everyone.

Question: What kind of concept do you want to bring in this single?
ShiGGa Shay: It is a love song, something that I don't usually bring.

Question: Were you directly involved in determining the concept, style, and others for the single?
ShiGGa Shay: I worked closely with my producer OkayJJack and superjdoug during the song production process.

Question: Why did you choose Jay Park?
ShiGGa Shay: We have known each other for more than 6 years. We always talked about working together and finally it became a reality for 'uRight'.

ShiGGa Shay: Jay is an artist on a different level. There is always something to learn when you work with him.

ShiGGa Shay: Definitely one of the best rappers in Asia right now.

ShiGGa Shay: Honestly, it's not easy. But I am grateful that we can overcome it and release this song for all of you.

ShiGGa Shay: I will still be pursuing my passion in the music industry.

Question: Who is a singer you would like to collaborate with next?
ShiGGa Shay: Pharrell Williams.
