How did Korea become one of the countries with ancient mirrors with very precise patterns?
Kapanlagi.com - Speaking of Korean historical relics, it turns out that Korea has the second oldest astronomical map in the world. It started in 1395 during the early Joseon era, Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido (star map) was created. The map was carved on a flat black stone with a width of 122 cm and a height of 211 cm. A total of 1,467 stars are engraved on it.
Almost all visible constellations in the northern hemisphere at that time are reflected on the map. This map includes four large concentric circles. What is inside them?

In the innermost circle is the constellation called the Big Dipper, which can be seen throughout the year. Meanwhile, in the outermost circle is the boundary line of the Milky Way. In the middle is the ecliptic and the equator, showing the path of the sun and the equator between the South Pole and the North Pole. Astronomical changes, including the movement of the sun and moon, are depicted in detail in this map.
Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido, which represents the eastern constellation system, has many similarities with the 13th-century Suzhou Star Chart made in China. However, it also has its own characteristics. This includes constellations that are not found in the Suzhou Star Chart or have a slightly different shape.
According to the Voluntary Agency Network of Korea, the most remarkable difference is that it marks the size of stars differently, reflecting their varying brightness. Based on the text carved on the stone, it is a reproduction of the Goguryeo astronomy chart. Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido showcases the long tradition of Korean astronomy and its advanced technology.
W.C. Rufus in Korean Astronomy said, "Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido is a detailed and accurate astronomy chart that integrates Eastern astronomical views."
