IU is undeterred by the malicious comments directed at her. In 2024, she has shown determination for the first time. Since 2013, this talented singer has been fighting against various accusations and slanders through legal action.
In an official statement from EDAM Entertainment on November 11, 2024, they reaffirmed their commitment to punish anyone who dares to defame IU.
"We are taking legal action against threats, defamation, the spread of malicious lies, baseless plagiarism accusations, death threats, privacy violations, sexual harassment, the dissemination of obscene materials, and the creation and distribution of illegal deepfake content," wrote EDAM Entertainment.

The agency revealed the continuation of the cases they are handling with their legal team. Currently, a total of 180 people have been reported to the police. Some of them have already received penalties, including six individuals who were fined, three who were given conditional discharge with the obligation to attend education, and one who was conditionally charged with probation and guidance in a youth facility.

Interestingly, among the perpetrators, there is an individual who is suspected to be a graduate of the same middle school as IU. This individual made harsh comments regarding the plagiarism accusations that have previously surrounded IU.

In the hearing held on November 26, 2024, the prosecutor requested the judge to impose a 4-month prison sentence on Kim. This woman was sued for posting derogatory comments about IU's clothing and singing ability on April 10, 2022.

In court, Kim claimed that she only wanted to express her opinion and mentioned that she was suffering from a mental illness that affected her speech. Kim will await the final decision from the court scheduled for December 3, 2024.
"I was just expressing a personal preference. I have a mental illness that impacts my writing ability, and I am requesting leniency," she said.

The dark times have already been experienced by IU due to the online bullying that occurred. In response to this situation, EDAM Entertainment, the agency representing her, emphasized that they will take strict action without mercy towards the perpetrators.
"Our approach to this issue is to pursue heavy penalties and not grant leniency," stated the agency.
