Japanese Psychothriller Series 'GANNIBAL' Returns for Second and Final Season

Kapanlagi.com - After the amazing first season that led Yuya Yagira to receive nominations for Best Actor at the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards from the upcoming Busan International Film Festival, and made this series the most-watched local original production on Disney+ in Japan in its first month of airing (based on airtime), “Gannibal” will return for a second season, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.

Starring a lineup of big names in the Japanese creative industry, the second season will once again feature Yuya Yagira as Daigo Agawa, a police officer; Show Kasamatsu as Keisuke Goto, the head of the Goto family; and Riho Yoshioka as Yuki Agawa, Daigo's strong and supportive wife. The second season will also bring back screenplay writer and Academy Award nominee Takamasa Oe; director Shinzo Katayama; and producer Teruhisa Yamamoto, the producer of “Drive My Car,” which won the 2022 Academy Award.

1. Brief Synopsis

Set in a fictional village in Japan, the first season of 'Gannibal' features a newly relocated police officer, Daigo Agawa, arriving at his new home as a broken man. Struggling with guilt over an event that traumatized his daughter, everything starts promising for this newcomer before a series of disturbing events quickly bring Daigo to the terrifying reality that something is very wrong with the village residents and the mysterious Goto family. In an unfriendly environment with tension everywhere, the first season takes viewers on an emotional journey before placing them in a gripping finale.

In the second season, viewers will uncover more horrifying secrets of the village and find out if Daigo is able to escape the impossible and bring the evil Goto family to justice.
