Seungri Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison and Billions of Rupiah Fine, Here are the Details

Kapanlagi.com - The case involving Seungri has finally reached its final verdict. In its latest report, SBS News states that the former BIG BANG member has been sentenced to 3 years in prison. Not only that, Seungri has also been fined a total of 1.1 billion won (approximately Rp 13 billion).

In the trial held on Thursday (12/8), the Military Court in Yongin conducted a hearing for Seungri, who was charged with 9 counts, including procurement and mediation of prostitution, embezzlement of funds and business income, attempted destruction of evidence, distribution of illegal film content, recording of illegal film content, illegal gambling, and violation of food sanitation laws.

Although Seungri has denied most of the accusations against him, the prosecutor and police who conducted the investigation remained unconvinced. This is because Seungri continued to flip-flop his statements. The inconsistencies and persuasion led to his confession to all 9 charges brought against him.

According to Article 137 under the Military Service Act, if a soldier (mandatory military service) currently on duty is sentenced to more than one and a half years in prison, they will be transferred to wartime labor.

1. Beginning of the Case

As known, Seungri has undergone a long court case for over 2 years since the Burning Sun scandal news. This case started in 2019, where Seungri was named as one of the key figures.

Seungri then terminated his exclusive contract with YG Entertainment and resigned from BIGBANG. He was first tried without detention in early 2020 due to no concerns of escape or hiding evidence.

However, after that, Seungri underwent mandatory military service, which caused controversy. Many claimed that Seungri escaped from the investigation by joining the military.

This case continued in the military court. Although Seungri denied most of the accusations during the 24 trials that took place over 2 years, the prosecutors still rejected his statements.

2. Initially Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

The plaintiff reported that Seungri blamed others regardless of his position as the main beneficiary of the crime for years. Therefore, the court initially demanded a strict punishment, namely 5 years in prison and a double fine of the final verdict.

However, considering that Seungri had no superiors. Furthermore, the largest shareholder had requested a portion of the profits in advance so that everyone would get a share.

Furthermore, there were no other losses caused by dividends. Therefore, the court ultimately sentenced Seungri to 3 years in prison.
