CANVAS OF BLOOD tells the story of two princes from the Joseon Dynasty, Prince Suyang and Prince Anpyeong, the blood-related sons of King Sejong who are separated by ambition. The story begins when Anpyeong dreams of a utopia and asks the court painter, An Gyeon, to paint his dream.
The result is a legendary painting titled Mongyudowondo or Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land, which then becomes the trigger for conflict between the two brothers. The shooting process of CANVAS OF BLOOD officially began on October 14, 2025. This film is being produced with a budget reaching 18 billion won (around Rp 210 billion), making it one of the largest historical film projects in Korea this year.
Director Jang Hoon stated that the film will highlight artistic aspects through classic set design, naturalistic lighting, and the detailed painting of Mongyudowondo which has been reconstructed with the help of Korean art historians.
