The music industry in the country is once again enlivened by the presence of the vocal duo New Sister, initiated by Ovi Kirana. Formed in July 2024, this group quickly got to work introducing their debut single titled Semua Jadi Satu, a legendary song by Deddy Dhukun and Dian Pramana Poetra that they have reinterpreted with a contemporary vibe.

In their debut release, Ovi Kirana invited Givri Taj as a vocal partner. Givri was deemed suitable because he shares the same musical vision. The two agreed to make New Sister a platform for bold musical expression that is not confined to just one genre. Here are the details.

"Yeah, I was around high school," said Ovi when met in the Warung Buncit Raya area, South Jakarta, recently, reminiscing about the beginning of getting to know the song.

The process of recycling this song is not easy. Ovi admitted to facing challenges during the vocal take process, especially in adjusting the right vocal distribution between herself and Givri. "For Ovi, it's difficult during the vocal take," Ovi revealed.

Givri also recounted that initially, he only sang the song by himself. However, fate brought him together with Ovi to perform this song together in a duo format.

"This song was initially sung by Givri alone. But Givri didn’t want to release it... maybe Ovi found it difficult to follow Givri's voice," Givri said.

The songwriter, Deddy Dukun, is satisfied with the results of the New Sister's recycled version. He sees that this duo is able to present a new arrangement without losing the essence of the song.

"I think New Sister does quite well with this song, the music video and live show are good, just slightly different from Trio Diva," said Deddy.

Ovi and Givri feel flattered by the comment. For them, performing Deddy Dukun's work is a great honor. "It's nice to be considered slightly different from Trio Diva, we are proud and it is an honor to be able to recycle Uncle Deddy Dukun's song," said Ovi.
