Addie MS and Children with Special Needs Collaborate in the Concert 'A Million Lights' for Boundless Harmony

The sound of music has the power to move the soul, especially when that harmony is presented magnificently on stage. In an effort to showcase this beauty, a group of talented young people from the Light Ministry Orchestra (LMO) will perform again for the second time with a concert titled A Million Lights. They previously captivated the audience with their debut concert, A Night of Lights, which was successfully held last year.

Now, on November 3, 2024, the Jakarta Symphony Hall will witness a different classical music event. The A Million Lights concert not only brings high musicality but also a meaningful theme, which is Empowering Youth Through the Process of Courage and Education in All Abilities.

Through this theme, LMO aims to support the growth and development process of children and teenagers that involves courage, perseverance, independence, and social awareness. Not just presenting music, this concert becomes a platform for young musicians to learn to appreciate diversity and make a positive impact on their surroundings.

One special element of LMO is the participation of children with special needs in this orchestra. If last year the members of LMO who performed were regular children, this time they also invited children with special needs to collaborate.

According to Fafan Isfandiar, the training coordinator, the number of young musicians involved in this concert increased from 31 to 44, including children with special needs who still receive different training portions according to their abilities.

“The training process is certainly different,” said Fafan. “We strive to ensure they are not burdened with overly intense training. It requires extra patience because they have a unique way of thinking. But, I see that they can blend in very well and help each other during practice. There is a synergy that makes us proud.”

These young musicians are not just talented kids; they are children who have the sincerity to share the stage with friends who have different needs. For Addie MS, one of the main supporters of this event, the presence of music in a person's life has a strong psychological impact.

“Music has an influence on the psyche. There are certain songs that can enhance intelligence when listened to repeatedly,” he stated.

He believes that music is the best medium to unite various differences. LMO itself is an initiative launched by young people, namely Edmund Lucius Oey, Celine Handoko, and Maddison Kurniawan.

Through LMO, they want to create an environment that supports children's growth without looking at differences or limitations. Every individual is invited to participate and appreciate the existing diversity. Thus, LMO not only becomes a platform for music but also a place to develop character.

In addition to the orchestra, LMO has an ensemble group consisting of 13 young musicians. The presence of this ensemble adds to the excitement of the concert with dynamic and varied musical performances.

These young people bring a new spirit to the world of Indonesian classical music by making every performance a space to share opportunities and skills.

On the other hand, the training process for children with special needs at LMO is not always easy. “Their training is different, and it indeed requires time and a deeper understanding to face the uniqueness of each child,” said Fafan.
