Astrid Becomes Temporary Vocalist for the Band Cokelat, Brings the Song "Wajar"

Kapanlagi.com - The vocalist of the band Cokelat, Ayu Ratna, or better known as Aiu, is currently on maternity leave. To fill Aiu's absence, the band consisting of Edwin, Ernest, Axel, and Ronny invited singer Astrid to become the temporary vocalist.

Together with Astrid, the band, which was formed in 1996, presents a new song titled "Wajar". A song that was created during the Large-Scale Social Restrictions or PSBB Covid-19 period.

"Yesterday, because of the PSBB, PPKM, and all that, we didn't have any activities, but because we still had to be sharp. So, we made a song. Finally, we talked, we have known Astrid since a long time in Surabaya," said Ernest in a virtual press conference on Friday (29/10/2021).

"We feel a click with Astrid, starting from conversations and everything. Finally, we kept jamming even though one of our friends, Aiu, is on maternity leave. She has received blessings and her children are twins," added Ernest.

1. Reasons for Collaborating with Astrid

Then, Ernest explained the reason why Cokelat teamed up with Astrid to fill the void in vocals. Actually, Cokelat has known Astrid for a long time. In fact, when Kikan left, Astrid became the main candidate to be the vocalist.

"So, we are old friends. Then, when there is a new song project, we try to invite Astrid. Yes, this new song is dedicated to be made as a collaboration project with Astrid. So, this is not an old song," he said.

"A few years ago, we wanted Astrid to be our vocalist. But, at that time, Astrid was also having a successful solo career. So, it didn't happen. But, our closeness is what makes this collaboration easy," said Ernest.

The song "Wajar" certainly sounds different from Cokelat's other songs. In the same opportunity, Cokelat's guitarist, Edwin revealed that the song "Wajar" was made with a different tone that truly suits Astrid's vocal.

"Regarding the arrangement of the song, yes, we intentionally adjusted it to Astrid. So, if someone says that this song sounds like Astrid, it's okay. That's what we want, rather than the song sounding unclear," said Edwin.
