'Burung Gereja' as Proof of Dul Jaelani Breaking Free from Ahmad Dhani's Shadow

Kapanlagi.com - The youngest son of Ahmad Dhani and Maia Estianty, Dul Jaelani has a strong artistic blood from both of his parents. Al and El Rumi's younger brother decided to pursue a solo career in 2017. His debut as a soloist was with the release of the song Kamu dan Aku.

Now Dul is releasing his own song collaboration with Giring Ganesha titled Burung Gereja. The collaboration between Dul and Giring started when they met at a Padi Reborn concert.

"We met at the Padi Reborn concert, and I heard that Giring was looking for a song. I gave him my favorite song, I tuned 'Burung Gereja' and thankfully Giring liked it," said Dul during the Afternoon Talk with Giring and Dul Jaelani, virtually, on Tuesday (15/6/2021).

"So, as Dul mentioned, it's really a song that I've been dreaming of. If it's in Nidji, a song like this won't pass because there are already established standards. Actually, this is the kind of song I want, easy listening, good harmonization, simple but impactful lyrics, a song that easily sticks and can be sung by anyone. I tried to sing it as best as I could because this is Dul's masterpiece but still with Giring's style," added Giring.

1. Written Since 2016

According to Dul, the song Burung Gereja (Sparrow), the lyrics and the musical notes were written since 2016. Before offering it to Giring, the song was almost performed by Dewa 19. However, because Dul wanted to break free from the shadow of his father's big name, Dul decided not to collaborate with Dewa.

"Honestly, this song almost made a deal with Dewa 19, Uncle Ari Lasso was okay with it but he was very busy. I gave it to Dewa, my dad was okay with it, Uncle Andra was okay, Uncle Once was okay, until there was a moment when I gave it to Dewa, when can I break free from my parents' shadow?" said Dul.

2. Satisfied with the Result

After meeting Giring, Burung Gereja (Sparrow) was finally recorded and produced by Musica Studio, collaborating with Pay as the music producer, Stevan Santoso for mastering, and Upie Guava as the video clip director.

Dul admitted that he did not make a wrong choice by collaborating with Giring. He is very satisfied with the result.

"I'm very satisfied. I didn't make a wrong choice, alhamdulillah," said Dul.
