Geisha's New Song, a Rework of a Hit Song from the 2000s

Kapanlagi.com - Still echoing in the ears of loyal Indonesian music listeners in 2006, a hit song from the band Samsons emerged, namely the song Kenangan Terindah. Geisha, one of the bands, had the opportunity to perform on the same stage with Samsons and tried to arrange the song.

Currently, Geisha is working on a music project called RENCANA HEBAT to commemorate their 17 years of work. In this project, Geisha reinterprets Indonesian band songs that have influenced their music career.

"Because this song has a history with Geisha itself. There is a song from the band Peterpan that we performed during the opening of an event. And also the song Demi Waktu by the band Ungu has a connection with us. The same goes for the song Kenangan Terindah. This song is often played when this band was still named Jingga," said Nard, Geisha's bassist during a virtual press conference earlier this week.

Geisha's new vocalist, Regina Poetiray, has also often heard the song Kenangan Terindah. She even memorized the lyrics. "When I was in elementary school, I liked this song. I used to hear it frequently on television and radio, so now I remember this song," said Regina.

Regarding the permission to cover the song, Geisha has asked for permission from the composer of the song Kenangan Terindah, Irfan Aulia, also known as Irfan Samsons, the guitarist of the band. Geisha wants to educate the public on how to cover a song

“There is a rumor circulating that making a cover song is difficult. We inform music enthusiasts that this is how to make a cover song, which is by asking for permission from the composer,” said Dhan, Geisha's keyboardist.

Regina also added at the end that she had discussed with the composers about how to perform the song. “We had a discussion with the composers. There were inputs from them that we took into consideration during the recording,” Regina concluded.

The song Kenangan Terindah with a rearranged arrangement by Geisha has been released on January 29, 2021 on various digital music platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Joox, Langit Musik, Youtube Music, Noice, and Resso.
