Getting to Know TwoSet Violin, the YouTuber Duo of Violinists Who Regularly Upload Comedy Videos About Classical Music

TwoSet Violin is a duo formed by Brett Yang and Eddy Chen since 2013. Before starting their career as YouTubers, both of them studied at the same institution, namely the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Australia. Long before that, they claimed to have met in their teenage years at a math tutoring center.

Brett Yang is a violinist of Taiwanese and Australian descent. He was born in Taipei on March 3, 1992. Brett began his career as a violinist with the Queensland Conservatorium Orchestra, performing a concert piece for violin arranged by Tchaikovsky.

After his debut, Brett continued his professional journey with various orchestral teams in Australia. He was even appointed as the concertmaster for the orchestra that accompanied his debut and the Australian Youth Orchestra.

2. Eddy Chen

Also of Taiwanese and Australian descent, Eddy Chen is a violinist born in Kaohsiung. Eddy shares the same birth month as Brett, specifically on March 23, 1993.

Similar to Brett, Eddy was active as a member of several orchestral teams in his home country (Australia). He served as the concertmaster of the Queensland Conservatorium Opera Orchestra from 2012 to 2014.

3. The Ups and Downs of a Career as TwoSet Violin

Initially, Brett and Eddy uploaded cover videos of pop music as a way to kickstart their careers as YouTubers. Realizing that the impressions they received were not satisfying, they decided to change the concept of their YouTube channel to a content creator of classical music interspersed with comedy.

The decision of TwoSet Violin to pursue a career as a duo comedian--violinist turned out to yield impressive results. As of 2018, they achieved the Silver Play Button from YouTube for reaching 100 thousand subscribers. This achievement was followed a year later by the Gold Play Button for having gained 1 million subscribers on their channel.

Like most musicians, TwoSet Violin dreams of holding their own concert. In the early days of their career, they worked to raise money by performing around the city of Sydney. Hard work pays off, as Brett and Eddy managed to raise enough money to hold their first concert tour in 2017 across 10 countries. The following year, the tour continued to several locations in the United States.

TwoSet Violin was set to hold their second concert tour in 2019. However, the COVID-19 pandemic that swept across the globe forced them to postpone the tour. Not wanting to keep their fans waiting too long, Brett and Eddy announced that they would hold a virtual tour at the end of 2021. This virtual tour took place over three consecutive days with different time slots for each continent.

In 2022, TwoSet Violin announced their second world tour offline which will be held from 2023 to 2024. The announcement was made after they finished performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra to celebrate 4 million subscribers.

This year, 2025, TwoSet Violin is reported to be planning another world tour to several countries. The schedule released on March 12, 2025, currently shows a number of locations in North America. Nevertheless, Brett and Eddy are still open to hearing from listeners who have not yet had the chance to meet them in their countries.

4. B2TSM, a Fictional Classical Music Composer Group

In 2022, TwoSet Violin released a fictional boy group named B2TSM. The group consists of Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Mozart, all parodied by Brett and Eddy.

B2TSM is said to be formed from the idea of Bang YG (played by Brett) who wanted a group with a classical--pop genre, bringing composers from the past using a time machine. The reason is that Bang YG feels that pop music nowadays sounds similar across the board.

Duh Duh Duh Dum is the debut single from B2TSM. In the group, Brett plays Shostakovich and Mozart. Meanwhile, the roles of the other three composers, consisting of Bach, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky, are played by Eddy.

5. Hiatus from YouTube

Last October, TwoSet Violin shocked the social media world with their sudden announcement of a hiatus from YouTube. The post garnered many comments full of questions and expressions of sadness, both from fans of TwoSet Violin themselves and from classical music listeners in general.

Many netizens also lamented TwoSet Violin's decision to disappear from YouTube. However, Brett and Eddy clarified that this could be temporary and asked fans not to worry as they would still try to reach out through other social media accounts. The release of the last songs from B2TSM also served as a temporary farewell from TwoSet Violin's career on YouTube.
