Isyana Sarasvati and Jason Ranti Meet Lafa Pratomo in GARIS TEGAK, The Process Was Unexpected

Kapanlagi.com - The collaboration of Isyana Sarasvati and Jason Ranti has become one of the most anticipated songs in the album Garis Tegak. Lafa Pratomo as the producer revealed the creative process behind the meeting of these two musicians with very different musical approaches.

"Yes, that was immediately removed, but we did not start from a theme. And Lafa has his own distinctive musical approach, Isyana has hers too," said Jason Ranti when met in the Kemang area, South Jakarta, Thursday (30/7/2026).

Lafa explained that the production process of this song actually started from a casual conversation without a well-thought-out thematic plan. Everything began from light stories at the dinner table.

"So we actually started maybe not thematically exactly like that, we just started by chatting. Just chatting at the dinner table, then like what’s it called, we told stories. Jeje told the story I mentioned earlier, like 'Hey, there's my neighbor at home because his job was replaced by AI,'" said Lafa Pratomo.

From that conversation, Jason Ranti suddenly asked for paper and a pen to pour out ideas spontaneously. The process of writing the lyrics was said to happen very quickly.

"We just did it like that. In the end, he asked for paper and a pen after five minutes, then he unleashed his superpower there, like 'Wow, he writes so fast.' Alright, let's go. So maybe usually we start from the music first and then we respond to the drafts he made. 'Let's just make this,'" said Lafa.

"Then I poured in the music, and Isyana also responded. So it became, it became a messy and chaotic music but in a beautiful way, when listened to again, 'Oh, it actually works like that,'" Lafa continued.

2. Starting a Project Without a Mature Plan

Interestingly, Lafa admitted that he never imagined before that he would bring together Jason Ranti and Isyana Sarasvati in one song. He even confessed to always starting projects without a mature plan.

"Not at all. From all these projects, I always leave home not knowing what else I want to create. It's true for everyone, maybe everyone feels like, 'What am I going to do next?' like that," he said.

"I don’t know what to do, just come first. But by the end of the day, it's like 'Oh, there's something that can be taken home, something to reflect on again,' or like that can be worked on again," Lafa concluded.

The album Garis Tegak consists of six collaborations, namely Feby Putri x Matter Mos, Nadhif Basalamah x Hursa, Ari Lesmana x White Chorus, Isyana Sarasvati x Jason Ranti, Bilal Indrajaya x The Jansen, and Hindia x Banda Neira. The opening song titled "Like the Number 8" from the duet of Feby Putri and Matter Mos is scheduled for release on August 4, 2026.
