Keenan Nasution Once Rejected Rp 50 Million from Vidi Aldiano Regarding the Song 'Nuansa Bening'

Kapanlagi.com - Legendary musician Keenan Nasution revealed that he has not yet received royalties or performing rights from the song "Nuansa Bening," performed by Vidi Aldiano. The song, which was first released in 2008, became quite popular, but Keenan feels that there is something lacking in the copyright resolution for the song.

In 2024, Keenan met with Vidi Aldiano's party for the first time. During that meeting, Keenan received a rather surprising offer from Vidi Aldiano's manager. The manager came to Keenan's house with Rp 50 million as a token of appreciation.

"The age of the song sung by Vidi is around 2008. It's 2024 now. I just met his manager in 2024," Keenan stated in the Fatmawati area of South Jakarta, on Monday (17/2).

Keenan recounted that the Rp 50 million was given by Vidi's team as a form of appreciation for the song "Nuansa Bening." However, Keenan decided to reject the money, feeling that it was not what he truly hoped for.

"Well, I won't take it, let's just sort it out later. So that's how it is," said Keenan.

1. A Dispute Rooted in Poor Communication

According to him, the cash offer was unnecessary, as he felt that communication and problem-solving could be done better without money.

"I don’t like it like that. Because he never comes, suddenly brings tens of millions, what for?," he said.

Keenan feels that such things should not happen, especially without prior discussion regarding copyright or royalties for the song. Keenan also explained that he never asked for money in any form.

"What is it, we call, or whatever, we’re not asking for money, right, just say hi or something," he said.

2. Copyright and Respect that are Fought For

Although feeling disappointed with the attitude shown, Keenan does not want to harbor ill feelings towards Vidi Aldiano. Keenan thinks there might be some things that Vidi does not understand.

"Maybe there are things he doesn’t know, some things he takes lightly. But his father knows," he said.

The song "Nuansa Bening" was first released in 1978 on the album Di Batas Angan-Angan, which was also created and sung by Keenan. The song became one of the big hits that is not only known among fans of old music but is also appreciated by a new generation through the cover version performed by Vidi Aldiano in 2008. Keenan hopes that this royalty issue can be resolved in a better way and not just through monetary compensation.
