Reality Club Profile, Indonesian Band that Successfully Penetrates the International Market - Initially Recording Only from the Bedroom

This Indonesian indie-rock band, which has achieved success on the international scene, has just released their latest album titled Reality Club Presents. The music they produce brings a new color to the music industry in Indonesia, so it's no wonder that their listeners grow every day. So far, Reality Club has approximately 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has been nominated for the Indonesian Music Awards (AMI) consecutively in 2018, 2020, and 2021. 

Reality Club has become a band loved by young people today because the songs they perform are dominated by romance-themed lyrics, which are very relatable to the lives of young people. In addition, their vocalist, Fathia Izzati, has gained considerable popularity since her video speaking in 21 different accents went viral on YouTube. This band, which debuted in 2016, previously had 6 members. However, one of their guitarists named Iqbal Anggakusumah and their bassist named Mayo Falmonti decided to leave the band. Currently, Reality Club consists of only 4 members, namely Fathia Izzati, Faiz Novascotia, Era Patigo Rizky, and Nugi Wicaksono.

1. Fathia Chia Izzati

Position: Vocalist and Keyboardist

This University of Indonesia alumni is considered the scariest when angry according to the other members. Besides being active in Reality Club, she is also a mother of one child.

2. Faiz Novascotia Saripudin

Position: Vocalist and Guitarist

Faiz is the older brother of Fathia and is known as the most devoted member to KLovers! He is also an alumni of the University of Indonesia and has studied at the University of Queensland and Leiden University.

3. Era Patigo Rizky

Position: Drummer

This drummer, who has the most exes among the other members, also studied at the same university as Fathia and Faiz. In addition, he is also an accomplished student who contributed a gold medal in baseball at the 2016 PON competition.

4. Nugi Wicaksono 

Position: Bassist

This Gemini zodiac bassist is a fan of Indonesian writer Sapardi Djoko Damono. Nugi is known as the most humorous and expressive member among the others.

2. Formation

Reality Club was formed on April 16, 2016 by Fathia Izzati, Era Patigo, and Mayo Falmonti. Later, Fathia invited her brother, Faiz Novascotia Saripudin, and her ex-boyfriend, Iqbal Anggakusumah, to join.

The first year of Reality Club was full of challenges, with a weak economy that required them to record in Faiz's simple room. Followed by Mayo's departure as the bassist, which was later filled by Nugi Wicaksono. However, Chia and her colleagues' spirit never wavered. Slowly, they built a fan base and gained recognition. They received performance invitations from various cities, and Reality Club's monthly listeners on Spotify exceeded 120 thousand. Even prestigious awards events in Indonesia, such as AMI, recognized them.

Although all members are from Indonesia, most of the songs released by this band are in English. This is because they are targeting the international market. The seriousness of their dream to compete in the international arena is proven by the release of the album NEVER GET BETTER Japanese version, which is supported by the label Inpartmaint Inc. This album is also the beginning of Reality Club's career journey, releasing its original version in 2017. After receiving positive responses from the public and growing listeners every day, the band consistently released 2 other albums.

4. Achievements Throughout Career

After going through a challenging journey since the band's formation, Reality Club has finally started to bear fruit. Besides successfully penetrating the Japanese music market by signing with a label that has previously worked with international artists like Phum Viphurit, Reality Club has also achieved several accomplishments both domestically and internationally.

Reality Club has achieved impressive accomplishments in the music industry. At the Indonesian Music Awards 2018, they received nominations for the Best Newcomer category and the Best Alternative/Alternative Rock/Cross-Field Production category for their work IS IT THE ANSWER?. At the Indonesian Music Awards 2020, they also received a nomination for the Best Alternative Duo/Group/Vocal/Collaboration category for their work TELENOVIA. In 2021, the band was once again nominated in the same category for their work I WISH I WAS YOUR JOKE, a collaboration with Bilal Indrajaya. Their achievements are not limited to the national level but also extend internationally. They were awarded the Best Music Video: Asia Pacific for the song DANCING IN THE BREEZE ALONE released in 2023. All of these accomplishments affirm that Reality Club has successfully showcased their quality and dedication in the music industry.

5. Touring Abroad!

Reality Club achieved success in organizing international tours in 2019, including in cities like Tokyo, Malaysia, and Singapore. In fact, when they performed at a showcase event in Singapore, Faiz mentioned that the song ALEXANDRA had just been released a week earlier, but the audience already felt very familiar with the song and even actively sang along with the band.

In the following year, 2020, they were actually scheduled to perform at South By Southwest (SXSW) held in Austin, Texas, United States. However, this plan had to be canceled due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite experiencing this setback, this achievement still remains a valuable accomplishment for Reality Club, considering that the opportunity to perform at prestigious music and art festivals like SXSW is not easy to obtain.
