Reynold Affandi Bluntly Reveals Reasons for Resigning as Additional Guitarist of Slank, Not in Line Because of This

Kapanlagi.com - Musician Reynold Affandi once served as an additional guitarist for Slank in the mid-90s. In an interview with kapanlagi.com, he shared stories about his involvement in Slank's sixth album, 'Lagi Sedih,' which was released in 1996-1997.

This album became an important moment for Slank after the departure of three of their original members, Bongky, Indra, and Pay. Reynold, along with Ivan, who is now Slank's permanent bassist, filled the void and participated in the recording process.

"Then suddenly I was asked to fill in a song for Kaka's solo album. It turned out that when it was released, it was Slank's 6th album," said Reynold.

1. Initially Just Helping to Make an Album

"At first I didn't know, from the start Bimbim said 'Nyot, let's record, help Kaka wants to go solo, let's work on the album, okay, let's go'. We started from planning 21 songs to finally how many, 16 songs," added Reynold.

Initially, this album was designed to be Kaka's solo album. However, a last-minute decision turned it into an official Slank album. Despite the sudden change, Reynold still contributed maximally. He revealed that the recording process went smoothly without many technical difficulties, but challenges came from the internal dynamics of the personnel.

2. Now Reynold is Busy with the Band OMOM

"The difficulty is uniting the energy that has been shattered because of drugs. That’s what I have to condition, between friends who are currently influenced by drugs, and me who is just being a rebellious teenager," he said, then laughed.

The guitarist of the band OMOM clearly remembers two songs from the album 'Lagi Sedih' that are very memorable for him. He feels that his guitar playing really stands out in the songs 'Nggak Perlu Perlu' and 'Kampus Depok'.

"In that album, there are actually two songs that I really thought about in terms of musical notation, and the guitar is in the song Nggak Perlu Perlu and the song Kampus UI Kampus Depok," he said.

3. Drug Factors Prevented Him from Joining Slank

However, Reynold's time with Slank did not last long. Although there are many rumors that he left because he could not adjust to the rock and roll lifestyle, Reynold emphasized that the main reason was that the environment was no longer suitable for him.

"Actually, no. The main factor is that drugs earlier. From the time I was a fan of Slank, coming to Potlot, eventually I played there and blended in. But once I got into drugs, the vibe became different. One of the proofs is that Potlot broke apart, friends all fell apart," he explained.

4. Got Permission from Pay to Join Slank

Before joining, Reynold even asked for permission from Pay, the previous guitarist of Slank, to ensure that his decision would not cause any issues. Reynold recalls this moment as one that made him more confident to move forward.

"I never told anyone about this. I visited Pay's house, asked for permission. And what made me feel at ease was just one thing. At that time, Pay said, 'You came to Potlot with the intention of making music. This opportunity has come, take it. I have no problem with it,'" he revealed.
