Smvll admits that this song was born from the nostalgia for friendships during his teenage years. He realizes that as one ages, everyone will seek their own path in life for the future.

"When that time comes, the plans that were once made together often do not materialize due to many factors. In fact, relationships with friends may become more distant," said Smvll in his written statement on Friday (6/12).

Smvll tells the story of the beginning of the creation of this song. "The song Secangkir Kopi was initially inspired by nostalgia for teenage years, hanging out with friends. Now, they have grown up, more realistic about life. Some have migrated, some find it hard to hang out again after getting married, some have become soldiers, chefs, basically everyone has gone their separate ways," he revealed.

He also reminisces about the hopeful memories with his friends in their youth. "There was a time when someone said, no matter what happens, we must be able to gather from now until whenever. In fact, someone joked that we would create our own village, gathering at the same neighborhood watch post, and it was already arranged who would be the neighborhood head or security. But as time goes by, that hope feels increasingly distant because circumstances have separated us," he continued.

Smvll explains that Secangkir Kopi is a song for anyone who feels a connection to its lyrics. He also mentioned that this song was inspired by true stories, both from his personal experiences and the stories of his loyal listeners.

"This song is about the hangouts that started together as kids and now have to chase their own dreams. The hope is that they hear this song and can come back together like before," he said.

He was also inspired by listeners' stories during live sessions on TikTok. "Someone shared that their friend no longer hangs out at their house. Their story is the same as what I feel. My hope is that this song can represent our feelings as we grow older and drift further away from old friends," he concluded.
