Kapanlagi.com - Indonesia never runs out of great talents in the music industry. This is demonstrated by Submess, an up-and-coming post-punk crossover band from Depok.
The band, consisting of Avan (vocals), Gilang (guitar), Yudha (bass), Adit (synthesizer), Apit (guitar), and Mahmud (drums), introduces themselves through the release of their single titled Cancel Culture, which was released via OwnGround Records. This single serves as an introduction to something bigger; namely a mini album titled Sub-urban Boys Eclectic Beats which is also being prepared by Submess.
So, what is the song Cancel Culture like and what meaning does it contain? Check out the review below..

As the title suggests, Cancel Culture tells the story of a phenomenon that we often encounter on social media in recent years. Submess attempts to encourage its listeners to be wiser in responding to events, especially those occurring in the world of social media.
"The new culture of canceling is like a pop culture. From celebrities to ordinary people, anyone can be cancelled from their social environment, especially in the digital realm. Sometimes we are forced to hate or dislike people we actually don't know directly or even initially have no idea about. And sometimes, foolishly, we only realize we are caught up in that cancel culture drama," said Avan, the frontman.

The single Cancel Culture is created with a very simple composition and repetitive lyrics. The listeners will only be presented with 'cross-referenced' sentences that keep repeating in a dynamic musical tempo. This is somewhat their effort so that listeners can reflect on the message contained in the song.
"We consider the music of Cancel Culture to be the simplest among our other songs in this EP. Monotonous and repetitive? Yes. But we believe this simplicity might be easy for people to remember at the beginning of our emergence," Avan continued.
