Cori said that the first Covid-19 case in the Al Izzah Islamic Boarding School environment was confirmed on August 23, 2020. A student named H (14) underwent a swab test independently and was treated at National Hospital Surabaya. The patient has been declared recovered on August 28, 2020.

The swab sampling was conducted from August 31 to September 13, 2020, involving the East Java Provincial Health Office, Health Centers, and Hospitals in Batu City.

Until September 13, 2020, a total of 748 students, employees, and managers of the Ponpes underwent swab sampling. The results showed that out of the 748 tested individuals, 31 tested positive for Covid-19.
"Currently, the 31 individuals who tested positive for Covid-19 are asymptomatic and have been undergoing self-isolation at the Al Izzah boarding school facility under intensive supervision from the East Java Provincial Health Office, Batu City Health Office, and referral hospitals," he explained.
All students and managers who are considered close contacts with the confirmed cases have also undergone self-quarantine at separate locations from the confirmed cases.
