Kapanlagi.com - The limited availability of clean water in remote areas of Indonesia often poses a serious problem that requires appropriate solutions. This is because clean water is an essential need in daily life, especially for drinking, washing, cooking, and so on. Therefore, concrete actions are needed to address such urgent issues.

Interestingly, one of the leading technology companies, vivo Indonesia, announced the continuation of their collaboration with the Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation. This collaboration is a step towards fulfilling one of vivo Indonesia's missions, which is to distribute clean water in the remote areas of East Sumba, specifically in the village of Mbinudita through the Mbinudita Water Connections project. Moreover, vivo Indonesia understands the difficulty of accessing clean water and the inadequate financial capacity of the community in Mbinudita to meet their clean water needs, as well as the lack of knowledge, capacity, and resources.

As part of the 3T region, the average water consumption per person in Mbinudita is very limited, at less than 10 liters per day due to the difficulty of accessing clean water. On the other hand, the villagers also need water to irrigate agricultural land, which currently relies on rainwater and village water sources.

Let’s take a look at the caring actions taken by vivo Indonesia together with the Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation.

Committed to Making a Positive Impact for Consumers and the Wider Community

This initiative also embodies one of vivo's missions, which is 'Joy of Humanity'. Furthermore, this project also provides sanitation facilities to 1,000 residents and students in Mbinudita Village. Through this initiative, vivo aims to make a real contribution to Indonesia, especially for the future generation of innovative, intelligent individuals with a better quality of life.

The Mbinudita Water Connections project, which started in November 2021, has received a total aid of Rp875,625,000,- channeled by vivo Indonesia to Kawan Baik. The implementation phase of the project began in September 2022, and as of now, the third and fourth phases have been completed at the beginning of 2023. The first two phases of well drilling and water distribution lines were also completed in 2022.

In the first and second phases, five units of ferosemen water tanks were installed, and six water tanks are now connected to the water source from the borehole, to distribute clean water to villages, including schools and public toilets with support from the Fair Future Foundation. Meanwhile, the third and fourth phases focus on providing access to clean water for school residents and the surrounding community, training in clean water infrastructure development using appropriate technology, as well as providing health and sanitation training.

“To commemorate National Education Day, we reaffirm vivo Indonesia's commitment to uphold sustainability and improve the quality of life, including education, for the Indonesian community that needs it the most. We realize this through the initiatives we undertake in the Mbinudita Water Connections project to support the development of access to clean water and a clean lifestyle for the residents and students in Mbinudita,” said Alexa Tiara, PR Manager of vivo Indonesia.

“Providing access to clean water is a crucial step in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in terms of eradicating poverty, promoting good health and well-being, providing clean water and sanitation, and achieving those goals with the partnerships we have now,” said Novi Tri "Gogon" Mujahidin, Program Manager of Kawan Baik Indonesia.

Gogon added, “We are very pleased to be part of this initiative and hope to continue synergizing with vivo Indonesia and supported by the Fair Future Foundation to create a long-term impact for the Mbinudita community. Access to clean water is essential for the health and well-being of individuals and communities, and we believe that this project will make a significant difference in the lives of those living in the area.”

Encourage Village Residents to Participate Actively

This project is carried out with supporting activities that ensure ongoing sustainability, including the construction of boreholes, installation of electricity for water pumps to the hill, ferosemen water tanks & rainwater harvesting, organizing and involving residents in the water committee, distributing water through piping, building public toilets, training on clean water and healthy sanitation, training for implementing healthy lifestyles, and nutrition garden training. The entire series of activities actively involved the village residents, resulting in an increase in capacity through community outreach that culminated in the implementation of a healthy lifestyle in the village after access to clean water became available.

Previously, residents had to walk 1.5 to 3 km to reach a spring or well because they did not have a water reservoir near their homes. Now, more than 800 people in Mbinudita have closer access to clean water, which has never been available before. The construction in the third and fourth phases has also shown positive results with several achievements and the establishment of various facilities, such as:

  • 11 water tanks with a capacity of 2500 to 7000 liters

  • 20 public toilets

  • 12 water control systems

  • 1900-meter long pipes connected to 12 villages

  • 1 PLN electricity source and the installation of an automatic borehole

  • 1 borehole with a depth of 35 meters

  • 240 residents who have received training on healthy living and nutritional fulfillment

  • 1 water management committee group has been formed with the participation of 10 members.

Hoping to Make a Real Impact for Those in Need

“Through our partnership with Kawan Baik Indonesia, we hope to make a significant impact by providing clean water for those who need it most. We believe that access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and we are proud to contribute to this project,” concluded Alexa.

It has become a strong commitment for vivo to improve the quality of life for the Indonesian people, including those in remote areas.
