Bringing Awareness to Sexual Violence Issues in Indonesia, The Body Shop Presents Virtual Shoes Art Installation Tour

Kapanlagi.com - This Covid-19 pandemic certainly does not hinder sharing beneficial education to the community. Instead, it can be an opportunity for The Body Shop Indonesia to provide educational space regarding the issue of sexual violence in the country.

This education is implemented through the Virtual Shoes Art Installation Tour: All Care, All Protected, Approve the PKS Bill #TBSFightForSisterhood. This virtual tour is expected to increase public awareness of the issue of sexual violence and involve more parties in the approval of the PKS Bill.

This concept emerged from observing the Shoes Art Installation Campaign located at the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) building, which has been taking place from November 26 to December 10, 2020, in commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, receiving a good response, especially in providing education to the public about sexual violence from the victim's perspective.

1. Shoes as a Medium

Ratu Ommaya, as the Public Relations and Community Manager of The Body Shop® Indonesia, said that this installation actually already has an offline version, which was then created into a virtual version with the concept of art installation using shoes as a medium to convey aspirations and support for sexual violence survivors. 

This Virtual Tour also invites the public to participate in the form of Share Story & Donate, where visitors can upload a photo of their pair of shoes and write their story and support. For each upload, The Body Shop® Indonesia will donate Rp. 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Indonesian Rupiah) for Psychosocial Education and recovery of sexual violence victims.

2. Just with Gadgets

This virtual tour invites the public to explore various installation areas without having to leave their homes and only using gadgets connected to the internet. Of course, with this convenience, the public can gain virtual knowledge and access it for free without any time limits.

"This virtual tour feature is packaged with a 360° view. The public can enjoy the tour as if they were visiting the art installation in person, but this one is more special because it can be done anywhere, anytime. Not only that, here the public can get complete information about the survivors' stories and also see the shoes from supporters of the Stop Sexual Violence campaign. The public can also use the Virtual Reality (VR) feature to explore this art installation," Maya explained.

3. Present Three Tour Areas

Maya added that the virtual tour flow is arranged with its own storyline. This means that people can explore this tour according to the predetermined flow. The Virtual Shoes Art Installation has 3 areas that contain the perspectives of sexual violence victims in Indonesia.

Shoe Lane Area: This area contains survivor shoes and stories of sexual violence they have experienced, ranging from catcalling, body shaming, touching, and more. Their stories show that sexual violence can happen to anyone, anywhere, and anytime.

Clothing Area: This area displays the clothes and shoes worn by survivors when they experienced severe sexual violence. Clothes are not the cause of sexual violence and we must stop victim blaming. This area consists of several stories from survivors with different types of clothing, and none of them wear revealing clothes.

Shoes Support Gallery Area: In this area, support from various layers of society is shown through the shoes they collect. The public can also show their support by signing a petition to pass the Sexual Violence Bill and also by "Share Story & Donate", where the public can finally have a voice.
