Buying Chili in the Market, Former Village Official in Malang Uses Counterfeit Money

Kapanlagi.com - A former Village Official in Malang Regency, East Java, was arrested while buying bird's eye chili using suspected counterfeit money. Sutinggal (52) bought a quarter kilogram of bird's eye chili using a suspected counterfeit 50 thousand rupiah bill at Waringin Gedogwetan Market, Turen District.

"The suspect spent a 50 thousand rupiah bill with the serial number EAR395999, which is suspected to be counterfeit. The perpetrator bought a quarter kilogram of bird's eye chili," said AKP Ainun Djariah, the Head of Public Relations at Malang Police, on Monday (20/1).

From the perpetrator, evidence in the form of 28 pieces of 20 thousand rupiah bills, 115 pieces of 50 thousand rupiah bills, and 16 pieces of 100 thousand rupiah bills, all suspected to be counterfeit, were confiscated. The money was printed roughly using a printer.

1. Securing Some Money

In addition, three pieces of Rp10,000 banknotes, one piece of Rp2,000 banknote, and two pieces of Rp500 coins were secured. The money is the change from the purchase using the suspected counterfeit money.

The perpetrator is registered as a village official residing in Sumberpucung Hamlet, Girimulyo Village, Gedangan Subdistrict, Malang Regency. Residents have been monitoring the behavior of the perpetrator who is suspected of frequently using counterfeit money for transactions.

2. Using Counterfeit Money

When the perpetrator was shopping at Patemah's kiosk, the perpetrator allegedly used a counterfeit Rp50,000 banknote. The perpetrator was subsequently apprehended at the market post before undergoing examination at the Turen Police Station, Malang District Police.

The perpetrator is charged with Article 26 Paragraph 1,2,3 of Law number 7 of 2011 Jo Article 245 of the Indonesian Criminal Code regarding the circulation and spending of counterfeit money.
