Excuse to Get Married and Pay Off Sibling's Debt in Malang Siblings Robbing Neighbors

Kapanlagi.com - Siblings in Malang Regency, Muhammad Wakhid Hasyim Afandi (29) and Muhammad Iqbal Faisal Amir (28), robbed a neighbor who lived about 300 meters away from their residence. Iqbal even stabbed the victim's neck to death at the scene.

Both of them claimed that they needed money for their respective affairs. Wakhid admitted that he had to settle his debt obligations, while Iqbal needed money for his wedding.

“The suspects needed money for wedding expenses and debt payments. These two suspects are siblings,” said Kompol Imam Mustolih, Deputy Chief of Malang Police, on Wednesday (3/4).
The two perpetrators raided a house on Jalan Anggodo Gang 2A Number 22 RT 3 RW 5, Wendit Timur Hamlet, Mangliawan Village, Pakis District, Malang Regency. The house was inhabited by siblings Esther Sri Purwaningsih (69) and Sri Agus Iswanto (60).

1. Acting in Solitude

The perpetrators acted when the atmosphere was quiet, as the neighbors around the house were performing tarawih prayer. They deliberately chose the elderly as their target victims.

The perpetrators then entered the victim's house through the unlocked side door. When the suspect entered the house, he saw the victim, Sri Agus Iswanto, having dinner and spontaneously, the perpetrator, Iqbal, hit the victim's face.

2. Suspect Takes a Kitchen Knife

Iqbal then took a kitchen knife from the house and slashed it at the victim's neck. Although the visually impaired victim tried to resist by blocking the knife's slash.

"The blade of the knife broke and stuck in the left side of the neck, between the neck and shoulder, causing the victim's death," he said firmly.

3. Suspect Hits the Victim

Another suspect, Wakhid Hasyim, who followed and entered the dining room, met the victim, Ester Sri Purwaningsih. Wakhid immediately hit the victim with his bare hands.

"The suspect dragged the victim into the room, then slammed her head against the wall twice, causing the victim to be injured," he said.

4. Incident Known by Residents

The two perpetrators then took the victim's wallet and cellphone. The wallet contained Rp750,000 in cash and the victim Esther's ATM card.

The incident was uncovered when residents found the victim Agus dead with a knife stuck in his neck during the tarawih prayer on Friday (22/3) at around 19:30 WIB. Meanwhile, Esther was semi-conscious and had bruises on her face.

Ester, who works as a church nurse, screamed for help until one of the neighbors heard her. A resident took the initiative to find a friend and invited the local RT chairman's wife to go to the victim's house.

5. Victim Found Lying Down

At that time, both victims were found lying down and immediate assistance was provided. Police officers visited the scene and took statements from witnesses at the location of the incident.

The police admitted to taking statements from about 13 people, including Esther who had seen the perpetrators' faces. Through a series of investigations, witness testimonies, and collection of evidence, the investigators successfully identified the perpetrators.

6. Perpetrator Needs Money for Marriage

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Malang Police, AKP Gandha Syah Hidayat, added that the perpetrator, Iqbal, admitted to needing money for wedding expenses, while his brother Wakhid needed money to pay off debts.

“He needs money for the wedding and has a relatively small debt of Rp5 million for daily needs,” he explained.

7. Victim and Perpetrator Are Not Acquainted

Based on the investigation, the perpetrator and the victim do not know each other. This action was their first, and they claimed to have done it out of desperation.

For their actions, both perpetrators are charged with multiple articles, namely Article 365 paragraph (1), paragraph (2) numbers 1, 2, and 3, paragraph (3), and paragraph (4) of the Criminal Code, and Article 351 paragraph (1), paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code regarding assault resulting in injury and death.
