'Hope For Bali', A Noble Mission to Save Hundreds of Thousands of Bali Residents Affected by Covid-19

This island indeed has many exotic and visually pleasing tourist locations. However, unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic that has been raging throughout 2020 has had an extraordinary negative impact on Bali.

Since April 2020, it has been recorded that around 90% of hotels in Bali have been forced to stop operating due to government recommendations. Various tourist locations have been closed, and even Ngurah Rai Airport has been closed for international flights.

As a result, the tourism sector, which is the main source of income for the island of Bali, has plummeted. This has also affected the economy of the Balinese people, especially daily wage workers such as street sweepers, scavengers, street fruit sellers, hair braiders, and horse-drawn carriage drivers, among many others. There are approximately 150,000 Balinese people living below the poverty line as a result.

'20 Thousand for 2020'

Seeing this situation, a group of Balinese housewives expressed their concern. Some individuals then initiated a campaign titled '20 Thousand for 2020' through social media since April 2020. In essence, they invite the public to contribute by donating Rp 20,000 to the people in Bali affected by Covid-19.

Unexpectedly, the campaign was a great success. Many people felt touched and eventually joined in providing assistance.

Hope For Bali

Although the '20 Thousand for 2020' campaign went smoothly, the Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect people. People in Bali, especially the elderly, still need assistance to survive.

Based on this fact, Grace, Indri, Gung Dian, and Karina as the initiators of the '20 Thousand for 2020' campaign chose to continue their assistance program, but in a new and more global form, namely Hope For Bali, which was officially established in October 2020.

The main program of the Hope For Bali Foundation is to distribute the received donations by going directly to the streets. The selection of donation forms has been carefully considered, where each aid package contains 5 kg of rice, oil, sugar, instant noodles, soap, and other essential items.
