Lecturers at the State University of Malang Test Positive for Covid-19 After Attending Hajj Officer Training

Kapanlagi.com - Teachers or lecturers at the State University of Malang (UM) have tested positive for Covid-19 and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Malang City. The lecturer is believed to have been infected with Covid-19 while attending integrated training for prospective hajj officers in the Hajj Dormitory Sukolilo Surabaya from 9th to 18th March 2020.

"The information about one lecturer testing positive for Covid-19 is true. We received information that the lecturer is likely to have contracted Covid-19 while attending the integrated training for prospective hajj officers at the Hajj Dormitory Sukolilo Surabaya from 9th to 18th March 2020," said Markus Diantoro, Coordinator of the Covid-19 Alert Task Force at the State University of Malang in a written statement on Monday (13th April).

Currently, the lecturer is in stable condition and under monitoring and treatment at the hospital. Meanwhile, the Task Force has conducted contact tracing of the lecturer's history for the past 14 days since the confirmation date within the campus environment.

"We have also contacted anyone who may have had physical contact with the lecturer," he added.

1. Continue to Coordinate

The task force continues to coordinate with various agencies in the Malang Raya region as an effort to increase vigilance against the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, in accordance with its duties and functions, the task force conducts activities to increase vigilance, prevention, and control of the Covid-19 pandemic on campus.

The campus conducts early detection efforts by checking the body temperature of everyone entering the campus. The campus has decided to use only one entrance and exit, which is through Semarang street.

2. Conduct Screening

The task force also conducts health surveillance screening for the academic community, disinfection spraying, health promotion, hand sanitizer production, mobilizing and distributing assistance, and others.

Health screening is carried out by distributing online questionnaires from March 17 to April 12, 2020. The distribution of questionnaires was done in 2 periods.

In Period 1 (March 17-23, 2020), a total of 10,785 respondents were obtained, consisting of 520 (4.8%) lecturers, 398 (3.8%) educational staff, and 9,860 (91.4%) students. Meanwhile, in Period 2 (March 24, 2020-April 12, 2020), a total of 6,232 respondents were obtained, consisting of 414 (6.7%) lecturers, 327 (5.3%) educational staff, and 5,491 (88.1%) students.

A source mentioned that lecturer with the initials KH teaches at the Department of Arabic Literature, State University of Malang (UM). Currently, the person from Malang district is being treated at Saiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA).
