Luxury Masks by Designer from Malang Becomes Celebrities' Collection

Kapanlagi.com - Gerry Yo (28), a designer from Malang, has created fashionable masks that have become a collection of many celebrities in Indonesia. In addition, the wives of officials also regularly order these luxurious masks adorned with various Swarovski crystals.

Celebrities such as Titi Dwi Jayanti (Titi DJ), Reza Artamevia, Dewi Perssik, and Sara Fajira are among those who collect Gerry's masks. Through them, his mask creations have gained wide recognition among various circles up to now.

"Dewi Perssik actually wore our masks a long time ago, around January, before the pandemic, for her music video shoot. The concept was to wear masks at that time. Then, after the pandemic, the photos we took went viral on social media," said Gerry Yo at his gallery in Malang on Tuesday (18/8).

1. Many Orders

Gerry's fashion masks have recently received many orders, even reaching the markets in Germany, America, and Paris. Most people find out about them through the regular photos uploaded on social media.

"Just yesterday, we received an order from as far as Paris. However, due to limitations caused by the pandemic, we had to postpone the delivery because it's been quite challenging during this pandemic period," he emphasized.

2. Engaged in the Fashion World

Gerry has been involved in the fashion world, specifically in designing happies or accessories, including masks, headpieces, and others. Before the pandemic, his works were already ordered from Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Although he has been in this business for three years, there has been a high demand for mask products during the pandemic season. Therefore, his fashion masks need to be adjusted in terms of material and customer requirements.

"I didn't initially design masks specifically for the current pandemic situation. However, when the government advised people to wear masks, I redesigned them to be suitable for weddings, marriage ceremonies, and other events," he explained.

3. Learning Design and Sequin Techniques

Gerry learns design and sequin techniques autodidactically by developing them through magazines, the internet, and TV. The Fashion TV enthusiast never expected his work to be more liked when combined with masks, apart from the pandemic factor.

"At first, I was hesitant to make these masks, who would want to wear a fashion mask? Who would want their face covered during a fashion show? I just like making something unique. Then, because of the pandemic and the government's recommendation to wear masks, it turns out that this mask went viral after being worn by a celebrity for a music video," he said.
