Maintaining Public Trust, Baznas RI Continues to Commit to Distributing Donations to Gaza

Not only for fellow Muslims, but many parties also regret the conflict on humanitarian grounds. In Indonesia itself, as a country with a majority Muslim population, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has issued a fatwa requiring Muslims to help the struggle of the Palestinian people.

The National Amil Zakat Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Baznas RI) continues to strive to uphold the aspirations of the community, especially Muslims who want to help the struggle in Gaza. The Chairman of Baznas, Prof. Dr. Noor Achmad, emphasizes that Baznas remains committed to the people who have entrusted the institution in the distribution of donations to Palestine.

Furthermore, he also asserts that until now, Baznas remains actively receiving and distributing donations for Gaza from Muslim zakat payers (muzaki) who want to participate in the humanitarian struggle in Palestine. "Remember, in Palestine there are millions of people who are starving, and every penny of assistance is very valuable to them," he said.

In the process of distributing donations to Gaza, Baznas is more cautious in accepting contributions in accordance with the instructions of the MUI and the Indonesian Muslim Consumers Foundation (YKMI), a non-profit organization active in protecting Muslim consumers.

Together with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Baznas remains committed and active in the process of distributing donations from the Indonesian community. Deputy I of Baznas in the Collection sector, M. Arifin Purwakananta revealed that the total donation distribution from Indonesia reached IDR 43.1 billion, not including 56.7 tons of natura, as of April 2024.

A bigger step was taken by Baznas. Together with the government and the Jordanian side, Baznas is also actively involved in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, Palestine, via air routes. The assistance comes from various parties, including zakat amil institutions (LAZ), Baznas at the provincial/district/city level, corporate donations, individual donations, and school contributions based on humanitarian interests.
