Malang Goes Through Transition Period Towards New Normal, Malls Reopen Visitors Must Fill Out Guest Book

In the transition period from PSBB to New Normal, several malls and shopping centers in the City of Apples have already reopened. However, it should be noted that the management still requires visitors to follow the procedures according to the Covid-19 health protocol.

Observations at Malang Town Square (Matos) and Transmart, mall visitors are even required to fill out a guest book and provide their address and telephone number. Visitors also have their body temperature measured and wear masks before being allowed to enter the mall.

Of course, the security guards have prepared hand sanitizers for visitors. For safety reasons, only healthy visitors are allowed to enter the shopping center.

1. Strict Protocol from Officers

While inside the mall, there were some disciplined visitors who even wore face shields. However, on the other hand, some visitors were seen not wearing their masks properly and had to be reminded by the officers.

Some employees were also seen wearing face shields in certain tenants, especially in food areas. However, some were seen just using regular masks.

The mall is in a transition period for two weeks, preparing facilities to welcome the new normal. Preparations include providing handwashing stations, thermo guns, and requiring visitors to wear masks.

2. Mayor of Malang Conducts Surprise Inspection

The Mayor of Malang, Sutiaji, along with the Chief of Malang City Police, Commissioner Pol Leonardus Simarmata, and the Commander of 0833 Malang City Military District, Tommy Anderson, conducted a surprise inspection (Sidak) to several shopping centers. The group visited the Olympic Garden Mall (MOG) and Ramayana to assess their readiness and facilities in preparation for the new normal.

Mayor Sutiaji generally assessed that the shopping centers have made improvements and any shortcomings will be addressed as soon as possible. He emphasized that the management and tenants must seriously implement the Covid-19 protocols.

Tenants are urged to practice physical distancing with customers, and employees are required to wear face shields and gloves while serving buyers.

"I urge business owners to pay attention to their employees' use of personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, and face shields while working and serving customers. If these measures are not followed, we will close down the business," he said firmly.

3. Possibility of Reimplementing PSBB

Sutiaji also asked shopping center managers to increase personnel at the entrance. All individuals who will enter the shopping center must first be directed to wash their hands, have their body temperature checked, and fill out a guest book.

"This visit, we consider it as the first warning for business owners. Because previously we have conducted socialization. We will monitor this continuously for 7 days during the transition period. If the public and business owners are not disciplined, it is highly possible that we will return to the implementation of PSBB," he explained.

Sutiaji hopes that this pattern will become a habit and raise public awareness. So that they are aware that they are living in a new order, a new normal that is no longer normal as before but normal alongside Covid-19.
