Sad News, Poet Sapardi Djoko Damono Passed Away

Kapanlagi.com - Sad news comes from the literary world, Sapardi Djoko Damono or affectionately known as SDD has just passed away at the age of 80 today, Sunday (19/7/2020). The news of the passing of this senior poet of the homeland was delivered by Maudy Koesnaedi.

Through her Twitter account, the actress who played Zaenab in the movie SI DOEL THE MOVIE expressed her condolences for the departure of Djoko Damono.

"Goodbye Pak Sapardi Djoko Damono.. Thank you for being a teacher, teaching many things through your works. Your works have accompanied me for a long time.. Rest in peace Pak.. rest peacefully there... My prayers accompany you," wrote Maudy Koesnaedy.

1. Declining Organ Function

According to CNN Indonesia, Sapardi Djoko Damono passed away at Eka BSD Hospital in Tangerang. One of Djoko's relatives, Sonya Sondakh, said that he had been hospitalized due to declining organ function and a severe infection. 

"Father is still in the ICU because his condition needs to be monitored. Due to his age, his organ function naturally declines and there is a severe infection," said Sonya as quoted by CNN Indonesia. 

2. Indonesia's Literary Figure

As a poet, Sapardi Djoko Damono is known as one of the literary figures in Indonesia. Some of his works, such as poems, novels, and other literary works, have been widely distributed in several countries. 

Some of his famous works include Hujan Bulan Juni (1991), Ayat-Ayat Api (2000), Pada Suatu Hari Nanti (2013), and his two latest novels released in 2017 and 2019, namely Pingkan Melipat Jarak and Sepasang Sepatu Tua.
