Target of 1 Million Vaccines Per Day, 313,100 Doses of AstraZeneca Arrive in the Country

Kapanlagi.com - The struggle against Covid-19 is still ongoing in various ways. One of them is through a vaccination program that the government has been striving for to achieve herd immunity, with a target of 1 million vaccines per day starting from June 2021.

Supporting the government's efforts, Indonesia has just received a new stock of 313,100 doses of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on June 5, 2021 at 18:00. With this arrival, the total number of vaccines received in Indonesia is now 92.2 million doses, a combination of ready-to-use vaccines and raw materials (bulk).

The AstraZeneca vaccine that has returned to the homeland is part of the Indonesian government's hard work since 2020, which began exploring multilateral cooperation in the Covid-19 COVAX, a global initiative aimed at equal access to Covid-19 vaccines.

For your information, for those who don't know, COVAX is led by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). UNICEF's role in the distribution of multilateral vaccines in Indonesia has also been appreciated by the government.

Indonesia itself receives 3-20% of the Covid-19 vaccine allocation based on the population. This is obtained through the GAVI COVAX Advanced Market Commitment (Covax AMC) mechanism. While the government is actively accelerating the implementation of vaccination, ensuring the availability of ready-to-use vaccines is crucial.

This arrival brings the total number of vaccines received by Indonesia to 92.2 million doses, accumulated from ready-to-use vaccines and raw materials (bulk). With a breakdown of 3 million doses of Sinovac ready-to-use vaccine, 6.7 million doses of AstraZeneca ready-to-use vaccine, and 1 million doses of Sinopharm ready-to-use vaccine, as well as 81.5 million doses of Sinovac vaccine in raw material form.

After the raw materials are processed at Bio Farma, the total number of ready-to-use vaccines owned is 76.2 million doses, which is sufficient for 37.6 million people. Along with the target of vaccinating an average of 1 million people per day starting from June 2021 in an effort to achieve herd immunity, various acceleration efforts continue to be carried out. Among them are by shortening the vaccination process from 4 tables to 2 tables; starting to vaccinate those aged 50 years and above in DKI Jakarta and Bali; starting the phase III vaccine pilot program. 

As of June 4th, the number of people who have received the first dose of the vaccine is 17.3 million and the second dose is 11.1 million. Meanwhile, the realization of the mutual cooperation vaccination until May 30th, 2021 is 49 thousand people who have received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine. They are workers from 36 business entities or legal entities. And up to now, 86 thousand doses of vaccine have been distributed to the regions of DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Riau Islands, North Sumatra, and North Maluku for Mutual Cooperation Vaccination.
