Kapanlagi.com - Not everyone is born with all 5 senses intact. This is the experience of a man named Bagja Prawira, who was born with a hearing impairment. His left ear cannot hear at all.

Bagja then grew up by communicating verbally like most other people. This is because his right ear still functions normally.

"Hello, my name is Bagja Prawira. Actually, I have been deaf since birth, but only half of me. My right ear can still hear. So since I was little, I have been trained to speak verbally because I can still hear the sound of some letters, even though only a few," said Bagja as quoted from the Oris Pictures YouTube channel titled 'Don't Pity Deaf Friends - #OppositeDirection'

1. Total Hearing Loss

As time went by, Bagja finally couldn't hear fully. His right ear, which was the only source of his hearing, suddenly stopped working. Bagja panicked and was shocked to find himself in that condition.

"Then in 2016, my right hearing completely disappeared. After that, I couldn't hear any sound. I was shocked because I didn't know how to communicate anymore since I heavily relied on verbal communication," he recalled.

2. Joining the Deaf Community

Shortly after, Bagja decided to join the deaf community. And there, he began to learn sign language in order to communicate with each other. From there, Bagja realized that this condition he experienced was a blessing from God.

"In 2018, I joined the deaf community. There, my friends were very open and accepting of my presence. But at first, my deaf friends were confused when communicating with me because I was used to verbal communication. When I saw sign language, I thought it would be a good access for me to communicate. That's where I accepted that being deaf is a blessing from God," explained Bagja.

3. Getting Used to Using Sign Language

After 2 years, Bagja has now started to get used to using sign language for his daily communication. In fact, he tells his entire experience using sign language.

"In the past, I just pretended to listen, even though deep down I felt difficulty being a listening friend. But when I learned sign language, I started using an ISB (Interpreter of Sign Language) as a bridge for my communication," concluded Bagja.

Their journey in creating brand order videos has led to contemplation. As filmmakers, they sometimes have a voice that cannot be conveyed in the projects they create because of the objectivity of advertising solely for the brand's interests. And thus, #LawanArah was born...a content that they hope can bring about change for themselves, you, and all of us.
