Lift Accident at RS Unisma Kills 4 People, Allegedly Due to Work Negligence

Kapanlagi.com - A horrifying incident has just occurred at the Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA) Hospital, where an elevator fell and claimed lives. A total of 4 workers died and 6 others suffered serious injuries.

The accident is believed to have occurred due to work negligence. Kasatreskrim of Malang Kota Police, AKP Azi Pratas Guspitu, revealed that several parties have been questioned to investigate this incident. The Labfor team of East Java Regional Police was deployed to identify evidence at the scene.

"Based on the testimonies of witnesses at the scene, this was negligence in their work. The elevator was designed for goods, not for carrying a large number of people. Therefore, the rope was unable to withstand the load of 11 workers, exceeding its capacity and causing the rope to break," said AKP Azi Pratas Guspitu at the Malang Kota Police Station on Wednesday (9/9).

Investigators have requested statements from 5 witnesses from the victims' families and 4 surviving construction workers. The examination continues to develop by calling other necessary witnesses in the investigation.

"We will see the results of the next examination, how it will be, we will call them. There has been no determination of the suspect, we are still examining the witnesses. The results of the examination by the investigators, if there is a suspect, we will determine the suspect with the mechanisms and procedures that we follow," he said firmly.

The chronology is that the workers were about to return to work after the break time to go to the 9th floor. 11 people used the cargo lift before the string snapped and fell with the passengers.

"Maybe it's faster to save time, so they used the lift, which is usually used for goods every day. Even though there were people, but not that many, maximum 5," he explained.

As a result of the incident, 10 people became victims, with 4 of them dead and 6 seriously injured. The seriously injured victims are still undergoing treatment at Unisma Hospital and others have been referred to Batu Hospital and RSSA Hospital.

"They have broken bones in their legs and arms," he said firmly.
