Play Twin Children in the Soap Opera 'JANET & JAMILAH', Aisyah Aqilah Reveals the Difficulty of Acting

Kapanlagi.com - For the first time, Aisyah Aqilah played two characters at once in the soap opera Janet & Jamilah which aired on Vidio. She played the twin children named Janet and Jamilah who have very different personalities.
 
“So it happens that I have never played two (characters) of twin children before. This is the first time playing two characters, twin children, so there was a reading and discussion with the director and producer,” said Aisyah Aqilah in a virtual interview on Friday (28/1).
 
“I explored the characters together, how to become Jamilah who is very tomboyish and likes adventure, like earth and sky, and Janet who is a rich person protected by her family, innocent. How to make the audience feel the difference between Janet on cam and Jamilah on cam, a different feeling, I have been thinking about it from the beginning until now during the shooting,” she continued.

1. Difficulty Playing Twin Children

Aisyah Aqilah also expressed the difficulty of playing twin children. Besides having to portray two characters with different traits, the most difficult part is when both of them have to appear in the same frame.

"The difficulty is mostly when Janet and Jamilah meet in the same frame. Their dialogues will surely clash. How can I be Janet and then switch to being Jamilah by changing clothes, maybe it's complicated. One scene feels like two scenes," she explained.

"We are all in the same frame but one is done first. For example, Jamilah goes first in the first take, then I change clothes to become Janet. But there are some who use substitute roles, for example, I become Jamilah and the substitute plays Janet so that I can feel the presence of Janet in front of me," continued Aisyah Aqilah.

2. Often Confused

At the beginning of the shooting, Aisyah Aqilah was also occasionally confused with both characters. According to her, the most difficult part was distinguishing the voices between Janet and Jamilah.

"There's a scene where I was supposed to be Janet but suddenly became Jamilah, luckily the director reminded me. So we retook the scene. Mostly from the way of speaking and intonation," said the 19-year-old artist.

"The voice is already clear (most similar), but I'm trying to figure out how my voice should be different when I'm Jamilah compared to when I'm Janet. Because even though they're twins, there must be some similarities, of course, the face is definitely similar, the voice could also be similar, but one is feminine and the other is tomboyish," she continued.

3. Asking the Director Many Questions

However, to make it easier to portray the characters Janet and Jamilah, Aisyah Aqilah often asks and discusses with the director.

"I always talk to the director first about it. Then I try to find unique characteristics until I make Jamilah and Janet different. I also often ask a lot of questions and was recommended to watch series about twin children, oh it turns out the differences are in the way they walk, talk, and react," she explained.
