10 Life Journeys of Titiek Puspa, from a Girl Who Often Won Singing Competitions to Becoming a Legend of Indonesian Music - Still Active at the Age of 87

Born in Tanjung, Tabalong on November 1, 1937, Titiek Puspa's real name is Sudarwati. Her name changed several times until she finally chose the name Sumarti. 

Sumarti, who dreamed of becoming a kindergarten teacher, often participated in singing competitions and emerged as a winner. One day, she intended to join a competition without her parents' knowledge. She changed her name to Titiek Puspa.

She participated in competition after competition until she reached the Bintang Radio. That event catapulted her name into fame. She even had the opportunity to be involved in the production of the operettas Bawang Merah Bawang Putih and Ronce-Ronce.

Since then, Titiek Puspa began to produce various works such as the albums Si Hitam, Pita, Doa Ibu, Sampul Surat, Buka Pintu, Daun Yang Gugur, and Puspa Dewi. 

In 1957, Titiek Puspa officially married Zainal Ardi, an employee of Radio Republik Indonesia. The marriage ended in 1970, and Titiek was then courted by Mus Mualim. Mus Mualim passed away on January 1, 1990. 

In addition to music, Titiek also acted. IN BALIK TJAHAJA GEMERLAPAN, BING SLAMET SETAN DJALANAN, ATENG MINTA KAWIN, TIGA CEWEK BADUNG, INEM PELAYAN SEXY, and INI KISAH TIGA DARA are a series of films in which she starred. 

Titiek Puspa is also known by the 90s generation through her collaboration with child singers Geofanny and Saskia. In 2014, she formed a vocal group called Duta Cinta, consisting of children from various backgrounds.

Together with Duta Cinta, Titiek Puspa performed in the musical theater series PESTA SAHABAT that aired on RTV. Titiek was involved in the program from 2017 to 2019.

Titiek surprised the public with her performance alongside Saskia and Geofanny at Synchronize Fest 2024. She was still able to perform excellently despite sitting in a wheelchair. 

Titiek is now 87 years old. Throughout her life, she has received several Lifetime Achievement awards, such as from SCTV Awards, Anugerah Musik Indonesia, Indonesian Choice Awards, and Anugerah Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia.
