10 Portraits of Jessica Iskandar Reminiscing the Moments of Her Father's Departure Just 5 Days After Returning from Malaysia - Already Exhausted from Illness

“Indeed, the late father had been in a sleeping state for three days. So, a total of five days after returning from Malaysia. After returning, he was still okay for two days. Then on the third day, he fell asleep until the fifth day and passed away,” Jessica revealed.  

At the age of 74, Hardi was known to suffer from complications of various diseases. He had been experiencing this condition since he was 40 years old, with a number of diseases that continued to develop.  

“He has had so many illnesses. Coincidentally, my father has had many diseases since he was 40 years old. It started with diabetes, which progressed to heart issues, cholesterol, high blood pressure, stroke, and recently, his illnesses added to kidney, lung, and gallbladder issues. Plus, another stroke. He has been sick for a long time. But he still tried to seek treatment,” Jessica explained. 

Hardi also complained about the fatigue of facing various illnesses he suffered from. Jessica revealed that her father often expressed his tiredness in recent years.  

“The deceased may have complained like this for the past few years. He was tired, couldn’t take it anymore, wanted to go home,” Jessica recounted, with teary eyes. 

As a child, Jessica tried to strengthen her heart and accept the reality. She admitted feeling pity seeing her father's condition, which was getting weaker and reliant on many medications.

“We as a family, especially the children, felt sorry for him. His pain was extraordinary, because he had taken so many different medicines. In the end, he couldn’t walk anymore. If he walked, he had to be carried; he was so weak. The last time he fell asleep, he was already on an IV and being fed. So he wasn’t aware of his condition, it was really heartbreaking,” Jessica explained.  

Jessica also remembers how she tried to strengthen her mother to sincerely accept her father's departure. She believes that this is the right time for her father to rest from all his suffering.  

“That's why I told mom, be sincere. Maybe it's time for dad to go home,” added Vincent Verhaag's wife in a soft voice.  

The body of Hardi Iskandar is scheduled to be cremated on Wednesday (1/1/2025). However, the family has not provided further details regarding the cremation process. Jessica hopes her father can rest peacefully, leaving sweet memories for the family he left behind.
