The stage of THE ICON INDONESIA is not only a showcase for young talents but also an unexpected reunion moment for two great musicians, Ahmad Dhani and Afgan. They will be sitting in the same judge's chair again after last collaborating about 10 years ago.
When introduced at the press conference, Afgan spontaneously reminded Ahmad Dhani of their past meeting. "I last became a judge 10 years ago, you know. Do you remember, Mas Dhani?" he said. Here are the details.
This moment was met with laughter from Ahmad Dhani. The frontman of the band Dewa 19 admitted that he often forgets his fellow judges, especially those who are male. "Yeah, but I tend to forget when it’s a guy," joked Dhani.
For Afgan, returning as a judge is a new challenge. He is also willing to share secrets for participants to survive in the industry for a long time. According to him, being brave enough to step out of the comfort zone is the key.
"You have to be brave enough to step out of your comfort zone. You have to inject your own flavor into it," said Afgan when met at the SCTV Tower, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026).
Meanwhile, Ahmad Dhani, who admitted he has started to feel lazy about being a judge, eventually gave in due to persuasion from SCTV. He feels he still has the enthusiasm to contribute to the advancement of Indonesian music.
"Actually, I’m already lazy... imagine I’ve been a judge for 10 years. I’m not sure I can still be a judge. But I’m still enthusiastic," he revealed.
On the other hand, Titi DJ, who will sit at the table with Dhani again, expressed her excitement. She can't wait for the "out of the box" comments from the maestro that often spark lively debates among the judges.
"It's exciting because sometimes Dhani's comments are out of the box. Sometimes there are debates there. But it's okay for the participants to get input from various angles," said Titi DJ.
The reunion of Ahmad Dhani and Afgan, along with the presence of other great judges like Isyana Sarasvati and Andien, is sure to make THE ICON INDONESIA a high-quality and colorful talent search event.
