Yuni first gained public recognition when she participated in the Festival Bintang Radio & Televisi singing competition in 1987. At that time, she won second place.

In 1991, Yuni Shara released her debut album entitled Jatuh Cinta Lagi. This album received positive reviews and marked the beginning of her professional career in the Indonesian music industry.

Yuni Shara's career reached its peak in the 1990s. She is known for her distinctive voice and melancholic pop songs.

Some popular songs by Yuni during that time include Mengapa Tiada Maaf, Desember Kelabu, and Surat Undangan. Her albums were also well-received in the market.

Interestingly, Yuni also often performed at the Presidential Palace. She once sang in front of President Soeharto but wore the wrong costume. She revealed this herself in an interview on the Tonight Show a few years ago.

Yuni herself has been dubbed as a Recycle Singer because she sings existing songs with different arrangements.

In the early 2000s, Yuni Shara released the soundtrack album for Meteor Garden, which featured the song Cinta yang Kumau, the Indonesian version of the song Ni Yao Te Ai.

She is also part of the vocal group 5 Wanita. Yuni has collaborated with several musicians, including her own sister, Kris Dayanti.
