Sad news came from the vocalist of the band Repvblik, Ruri Wantogia. His father named Marcopolo Wantogia passed away on Saturday morning (30/1/2021) due to complications.
When his father took his last breath, Ruri was in Malang city for a music tour. Ruri finally managed to return home to bid farewell to his father. Here are some photos.
Upon receiving the news from his manager, he immediately asked for permission to return to Jakarta. "I was informed by my manager at 10 AM while I was still in Malang," Ruri said when met after the funeral.
During weeks of touring, Ruri's feelings were always restless and anxious to go home and accompany his father. However, he couldn't just do whatever he wanted regarding the work contract that had to be followed.
"(During the tour) I wanted to go home, I wanted to return, restless. But because of the contract, I couldn't just go back like that. (Today I was allowed to go home) because they understand the situation like this," Ruri explained.
Furthermore, Ruri explained that his father's illness had been gradually occurring over the past three years. From a stroke that caused paralysis on one side, gradually returning to normal, then becoming paralyzed again, but this time completely to the point of needing to eat using a tube.
At that time, Ruri deeply regretted not being able to take care of him. "What I regret is that I didn't have the chance to take care of and visit him yesterday. The last time I saw him was when I took him to the hospital a day before the tour," she said.
Although she continued with the tour, Ruri has always communicated with her father through video calls. Not only to relieve her longing, but also to keep herself updated about her father's condition.
"I already knew that the situation would be like this because Mama informed me about it every day. 'You have to be patient if anything happens to Papa,' Mama said that from the beginning because Papa's condition had already worsened," explained Ruri.
Ruri also remembers that her father wanted to have a meal together. "During our last conversation, Papa said he wanted to eat together. I said, 'Get well first,' because he couldn't stand," said the singer of the song 'Tiada Guna Lagi'.
