Kevin Sanjaya is one of Indonesia's male badminton doubles athletes who has many fans. After achieving many accomplishments in the world of badminton, he has now decided to retire on Thursday (16/5/2024). He shared this news through a post on his personal Instagram. Kevin Sanjaya made a surprising announcement for Indonesian badminton lovers. Through his personal Instagram account, he revealed that he has considered many things and has now chosen to retire.
Many of his fans were shocked by Kevin's decision. Especially since he has achieved many accomplishments as a badminton player. Kevin's journey in the world of badminton started at the age of 5.
It wasn't an easy journey, he moved from Banyuwangi to Kudus at the age of 12 to pursue a career as a national athlete. In 2013, Kevin joined PBSI in Jakarta.
"I am very grateful for all my achievements and @marcusfernaldig until now, even though we haven't been able to win Olympic and World Championship medals," Kevin Sanjaya wrote."But it seems like my time in the world of badminton is enough here," he continued.
It's not an easy decision to retire, starting from Kevin who has been experiencing shoulder injuries since 2017 and it's not getting better. The dream of competing in the 2024 Olympics is shattered.
"Then I got the opportunity to have a new partner. But I feel that we are not a good match because we are both front players," said Kevin Sanjaya.
After discussing with the PBSI management about Kevin's future steps and after receiving an answer that was not as expected in mid-January 2024, finally in February, Kevin decided to quit badminton.
Many are saddened by Kevin Sanjaya's decision, especially since he is still relatively young at 28 years old. His career as an athlete is certainly still long, but let's support this father of one's choice, KLovers. Continued success for Kevin Sanjaya!
