"About 3 years before the pandemic, the idea came from a friend at the pesantren (Islamic boarding school). I saw him enjoying cutting wood, so I became interested and bought carving tools to carve wood. Then I tried and it turned out I could make canes," said Unang Bagito.

"Currently, I have made around 20 canes. I don't sell them, I just keep them as a collection. Sometimes I like to bring them along, and if anyone is interested, they can have it as a gift, it's up to them how much they want to give," Unang continued.

Unang then explained that the characteristic of all his cane collections is a ring ornament as a sweetener. This is a spontaneous idea that emerged from this 61-year-old man.

"All of my cane collections have rings as ornaments on the hollowed-out cane as a sweetener, at least adding grandeur to the cane. (The idea) just came to mind, oh there's a hole, let's patch it up with a gemstone ring," he continued.
