Veronica Tan, born in Medan, North Sumatra on December 4, 1977, is a businesswoman and social activist widely known as the former wife of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or better known as Ahok. She studied architecture at Pelita Harapan University and has three children from her marriage to Ahok: Nicholas Sean, Nathania Berniece, and Daud Albeenner. After divorcing in 2018, Veronica focused on her business career and social activities.
During her marriage, Veronica actively supported her husband in his political career, including when Ahok served as the Governor of DKI Jakarta. She served as the Chair of the Family Empowerment and Welfare Team (TP PKK) of DKI Jakarta Province from 2014 to 2017. In this capacity, she contributed to various social and health programs aimed at improving community welfare.
After her divorce, Veronica Tan showed resilience by starting a new business. She manages Alpha Agro Indonesia, a company engaged in meat imports, and established a home care service called LoveCare. LoveCare aims to provide easy access for the community to obtain health services at home. This innovation is part of her commitment to improving the quality of life for the community.
Veronica is also known for her dedication to children through the Waroeng Imaji Foundation that she founded. This foundation focuses on empowering children living in apartment complexes in Jakarta through arts and education activities. On October 14, 2024, Veronica was called by elected President Prabowo Subianto to discuss her role in the upcoming government. She was then announced as the Deputy Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) in the Merah Putih cabinet.
