Ammar Zoni Observes Ramadan in Prison, Becoming More Religious and Focused on Tahajud Prayer

This holy month of Ramadan is spent by Ammar Zoni in Cipinang Prison in a different way. Amid ongoing legal proceedings, the former husband of Irish Bella is reported to have undergone a positive character change. Ammar now chooses to spend more time getting closer to the Creator.

Ammar's attorney, Jon Mathias, revealed that his client is currently much calmer and focused on fasting. The orderly atmosphere of the prison has indeed provided Ammar with space to reflect on his life journey. This change in Ammar's attitude is clearly visible from his daily activities in the cell.

"So that's it, we are building this condition so that the decision can be more pleasant, Amar is also more focused and prays more now, he is fasting, he prays a lot, he does tahajud," said Jon Mathias at Cipinang Prison, East Jakarta, Wednesday (3/4/2026).

"Well, he is focused on that and his family is the same. So there are no more news stories that justify, maybe from the parties handling the case," he added.

Ammar also conveyed a message through his legal team that he feels he has been treated well while in detention. The adaptation process at Cipinang Prison is going smoothly. For him, the discipline rules there actually help him rebuild his character that had faltered.

"Amar also advised the media that all this time he has been treated well in the prison and thankfully has also been transferred to Cipinang Prison, to the Minister of Law and Human Rights, and also in prison there is what you might call, a punishment that is basically character development, right," said Jon Mathias.

"It's like the disciplinary laws imposed by the prison, which have been continuously improving Amar's character while he has been in prison with this high-risk status," he continued.

In addition to mental support, the physical services within the prison have also received appreciation from Ammar. From clothing to food for suhoor and iftar, Ammar feels that all his needs are met with good standards. This allows him to carry out his Ramadan worship without significant physical obstacles.

"What is clear is that the prison service here, in our opinion, is also very good, whether it's about clothing, food, suhoor, and then about breaking the fast, and then character building. Especially since this is the month of Ramadan, more focus is directed towards character building. We feel grateful to the Head of the Prison and also to Mr. Minister of Law and Human Rights," explained Jon Mathias.
