Ammar Zoni Requests Rehabilitation, Reason for Drug Use Due to Depression After Divorce and Losing His Beloved Father

Kapanlagi.com - Ammar Zoni, the soap opera star currently facing a drug case, underwent a plea hearing at the West Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (23/7/2024). This hearing is a response to the prosecution's demands, which seeks a 12-year prison sentence for Ammar on charges of providing funding for a drug business.

In his plea, Ammar Zoni's attorney, Jon Mathias, stated that Ammar only used narcotics for personal consumption, not for sale.

"It can be concluded that the defendant did not sell narcotics but only used them for personal consumption," said Jon Mathias before the judge and the prosecutor.

1. Ammar Experiences Depression

Jon Mathias also explained the background of why Ammar consumed narcotics. According to him, the father of two experienced severe depression after losing two people he loved dearly.

"The defendant is suffering from depression and psychological pain due to the events that have befallen him, starting from his father who had stage four cancer until he passed away," he said.

Furthermore, Mathias added that Ammar went through a difficult time during the divorce process with his ex-wife, Irish Bella. "And after coming out of rehabilitation, the defendant was filed for divorce," explained Jon Mathias.

Jon Mathias emphasized the importance of support from family and loved ones in Ammar's recovery from drug addiction. "Close relatives or family play a significant role in mental recovery and drug dependency," said Jon Mathias.

2. Hoping for Continued Rehabilitation

In addition, Jon Mathias emphasized that Ammar Zoni has not been proven to be involved in a narcotics network and is more accurately described as an addict rather than a dealer or distributor.

"That the defendant is a narcotics addict is proven by the testimonies of witnesses I Made Suhita and Suparno, and the defendant has undergone rehabilitation for the second time," said Jon Mathias.

Therefore, Jon Mathias requested the panel of judges to impose a rehabilitation sentence on Ammar Zoni, in accordance with what had previously been agreed upon by the judges.

"Declaring the defendant Muhammad Ammar Akbar alias Ammar Zoni proven guilty of violating Article 127 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics. Imposing a rehabilitation sentence on the defendant Muhammad Ammar Akbar alias Ammar Zoni," concluded Mathias.
